By FARHAAN SHAH and AUSTIN CAMOENS
Passers-by pulled out two passengers from the burning car but were unable to save Hazizah
Hayun, 37.
The drivers of the other two cars and four passengers in the three vehicles escaped with
minor injuries.
The vehicle spun several times and was hit by a Toyota Hilux.
A Nissan Sentra subsequently hit the Toyota, which had turned turtle.
One of the injured, Habibah A. Jaabar, 53, said she was with her daughter Ruhaidah Yusof,
26, in Hazizah’s car. She was jolted awake from sleep when the Mercedes-Benz hit the
divider but fainted when the Toyota hit their car.
Passers-by helped to pull Habibah and Ruhaidah out but were unable to rescue Hazizah as
the door on her side was jammed.
When met at the Kulai hospital mortuary, Hazizah’s distraught husband Azman Sidek, 48,
said his wife was returning from her weekly trip to Kuala Lumpur to collect material for her
boutique.
“I had told her there was no need to go as we already had plenty of stock in our shop in
Plaza Angsana,” he said.
Azman said he had stayed up waiting for her to return as he had become worried when she
did not answer his phone calls. One of Hazizah’s employees called to inform him of the
accident at about 3.30am.
Habibah’s husband, Yusof Sarijan, 60, said his wife had been admitted to a private hospital
in Johor Baru with a dislocated elbow while his daughter sustained bruises and minor burns
on her back.
Kulai OCPD Supt Zulkefly Yahya said the other two drivers and four passengers received
outpatient treatment at the Kulai hospital.
