Home eight hours after

abduction
BY NICHOLAS CHENG

KAJANG: Some eight hours after his brazen abduction went viral on
WhatsApp messaging service and social media, a five-year-old boy is back
in the arms of his family.
A taxi driver, who only wanted to be known as Nizam, drove up to the
boy’s house in Taman Cahaya Suria here with the child in the back seat
and called out to the parents.

It was an emotional scene as the family rushed out of the compound to

embrace the child and whisked him inside.

Family members and neighbours tearfully embraced the taxi driver.

“I found him walking on the road and I recognised him from the WhatsApp
messages. I don’t want to get involved. I’m just giving the boy back,” he
said before joining the family in the house.

“I have a family of my own. I can’t imagine if anything similar were to

happen to one of my children.

The boy is reportedly in healthy condition.

Safe and sound: Nizam (left) with the five-year-old and his uncle, after he returned the abducted child to his
family.

His aunt, who declined to be named, told reporters outside the family home
earlier that the abduction occurred at about 9am yesterday as the boy was
being sent to the kindergarten.

“Two men stopped the car driven by his mother to ask for directions to the
market. As she was giving directions to one of them, the other man
snatched the boy and bundled him into a black Proton Saga and they fled
the scene,” she said.

It is believed that the mother managed to get into the abductors’ car but
they later dumped her at the side of the road in Sungai Chua.

A video of the incident then went viral, with netizens furiously sharing it on
social media. A picture of the boy was also widely shared, with messages
asking the public to keep a lookout for him and the car.

Amidst the frenzy on social media, false information was also spread,
alleging that the boy had been found and the culprits detained.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Willey Richard said the boy was sent to Kajang
Hospital for a check-up and was back with his family.

“The most important thing is that the boy is safe. We are still hunting for
the culprits responsible for this heinous crime,” he said.

Two suspects were detained by police in Bangi at 11pm.
