EXERCISE 1: NEWSPAPER REPORTS

Imagine you are a reporter for a local newspaper. Write a newspaper report
about an accident that has just happened. Use the following notes to write your
reports.

Motorcyclist killed, wife injured in a crash

MACHANG: Adnan Yusof, 35, of Kok Lanas died instantly while his wife
was seriously injured when their motorcycle crashed into a stationary lorry
at KM 31, Jalan Maju. The accident occurred at 7.45 a.m.
Kamariah Mokhtar, 32, was sent to the Universiti Sains Malaysia
Hospital in Kubang Kerian with head injuries. The victim has three
schooling children.
A police spokesman said that the couple were on the way work in
Kuala Krai when the accident occurred. He added that there had been
several serious accidents on the same road in the past few weeks.
According to a passerby, the lorry had been abandoned at the
roadside because it had mehanical problems. The driver was having his
breakfast at nearby shop when the accident occurred. I saw Adnan
speeding and he crashed straight into the lorry. His motorbike went under
the lorry and he was killed on the spot. We helped to send his wife to the
hospital.
