really fascinated by the idea of Haptik, it
took some effort for them to make it a
permanent change in their lives. We are
now at more than 1 million active users,
which is 10x from 12 months back.
Q. What do you see as Haptik
app's biggest challenge in the
coming months?
Monetization. We now have the users
in place and they are actively engaging
with the service. Given the basic service
is free, the key challenge for us is going
to be to generate revenue from it
effectively.
Q. According to you, how
companies can make the most of
chatbots to serve their
customers better?
As of today, companies can make the
most of chatbots to:
1. Automate Customer Service
2. Replacement of long sign up/
application/ lead generation forms
3. Create engaging branded chatbots to
increase awareness of their brand
Q. In your opinion, what is the
future of chatbots? How are they
evolving?
The jury on chatbots is still out there.
As the biggest evangelist of the chatbot
space, I will be the first one to honestly
say that it is not 100% proven yet that
people do really want to interact with
chatbots. However, we look at this as a
paradigm shift large as when the world
moved from a command line interface
to a GUI. It will take time for people to
get used to doing tasks with chatbots,
but it will happen.
2017 has seen the world of chatbots
move from theory to practical
applications. There are more than 100
companies globally with live
applications of chatbots. It was
opportune that AWS announced a host
of features at their year-end conference
last week that go a long way in
supporting the chatbot developer
community. The first few big
acquisitions in our space were also
made in 2017.
We believe that 2018 is going to be the
hyper growth year for conversational
interfaces. From voice to text to local
languages, you will see bots built for
every type of application across
consumer and enterprise sectors. There
will be at least one chatbot that will
reach the scale of more than 10 million
active users. We will also see bots
replace business functions in the intra-
office space for things like HR, IT,
helpdesk, etc.
Based on some of the existing use cases
and the lowest expected market size,
chatbots can grow from $700M in 2016
to $3B market in 2021. According to a
survey conducted by Oracle, 80% of the
companies will launch their own
chatbots by 2020.
Q. Do you have any B2B
solutions that can help other
businesses in deploying
chatbots? Please shed some light
on that.
Yes, our B2B enterprise business line is
the fastest growing business in our
company. There are two products we
offer for other companies:
1. Custom chatbot solutions for
web/mobile/social. We closely work
with a company to identify business
processes that can be automated and
then design, develop, and maintain a
chatbot solution. We are sector-
agnostic and have clients in BFSI,
FMCG, Telecom, E-commerce and
more.
2. The Haptik mobile SDK can be used
by mobile app developers to
integrate various Haptik service
chatbots such as flight bookings,
cabs, bill payments, reminders and
more. Essentially, they can
implement whatever is available
inside the Haptik app in their own
app. This leads to a significant
improvement in mobile app
retention rates, where users have
more reasons to use that app.
Q. Where do you see Haptik app's
three years down the line? Are
you working on any new features?
We want to have more than 10 million
active users using the Haptik app by the
end of 2018. We recently launched the
Daily Fun category through which
people can consume jokes, horoscopes,
motivational quotes, quizzes and more.
We've also launched a Finance category
last month to help people with
questions around various financial
products. Similarly, we will be adding
many more categories over the next 12
months to give users what they want
and ultimately build the best one-stop
shop solution for all your daily needs.

been an impetus in stimulating
