Question 2
Six nails are used to hold the hanger at A against the column. Determine the
minimum required diameter of each nail to the nearest mm if it is made of material
having τfail = 112 MPa. Apply a factor safety of F.S. = 2 against shear failure.

The two aluminum rods support the vertical force of P = 20 kN. Determine their
required diameters if the allowable tensile stress for the aluminum is σallow = 150
