 Brunei - Brunei's official language is Malay but English is also widely used and is the

language of instruction in most subjects in schools.


 Burma (Myanmar) - The official language of Myanmar (Burma) is Burmese (mya), spoken
by the majority ethnic group (Bamar, or Burman) and as an additional language by
speakers of the approximately 100 minority indigenous languages.
 Cambodia - Most of the population in Cambodia speaks the Khmer language, the
country's official language.
 Timor-Leste - Timor-Leste's two official languages are Portuguese and Tetum, and its
two working languages are English and Indonesian.
 Indonesia - Bahasa Indonesia is the official language of Indonesia, an archipelago of
17,508 islands that is the world's largest Muslim-majority nation, with a total population
of nearly 242 million.
 Laos - the official language spoken in Laos is Lao. But even though Lao is the official Laos
language, it's spoken in many different dialects across various ethnic groups.
 Malaysia - The official and national language in Malaysia is Malay, or Bahasa Malaysia,
and is "the basis for national integration."
 Philippines - Filipino, the standardized form of Tagalog, is the national language and
used in formal education throughout the country. Filipino and English are both official
languages and English is commonly used by the government. Filipino Sign Language is
the official sign language.
 Singapore - Singapore's four official languages are Malay, Mandarin, Tamil and English.
Because of its bilingual education policy, most citizens speak two or more languages —
usually English, their ethnic mother tongue, and potentially others.
 Thailand - Thai language is the official language of Thailand, one could say English is its
unofficial second language.
 Vietnam - Vietnamese is the official language; English is increasingly favored as a second
language. French, Chinese, Khmer and various highlander languages are also spoken.
Between 85 percent and 90 percent of Vietnam's residents are ethnically Vietnamese.
