Performance criteria
PC01 Describe the role of pneumatic and hydraulic components within mechatronic system, and the inter-
relationships with other components and modules within that system
PC02 Describe the role of pneumatic and hydraulic technology in modern engineering application
PC03 Explain the physical properties of pneumatic and hydraulic components
PC04 Identify an application where pneumatic and hydraulic technology is implemented
PC05 Compare between the features of pneumatic systems and hydraulic systems.

The learner must be able to:
 Explain the physical properties of pneumatic and hydraulic components
 Describe the components and functions of each component in an ideal pneumatic and hydraulic systems

Evidence of the ability to:

• Compare, by giving examples, between the features of the two systems.

Performance criteria
PC01 Measure the pressure at different points of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
PC02 Compare between the measured and theoretical values of pressure.
PC03 Adjust components of pneumatic and hydraulic systems in the laboratory
PC04 Control the speed of pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders using proper components.
PC05 Conclude the force of cylinders based on measured and given values

Knowledge Evidence:
The learner must be able to:
 Describe the relation between force and pressure in pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders
 Explain the working principle of components used in an ideal pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Performance Evidence:
Evidence of the ability to:
• Perform the required measurement in pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Perform adjustment of pneumatic components as per manuals.

PC02 Draw the displacement step diagram of a sequence in pneumatic and hydraulic systems

PC05 Choose the proper pneumatic and hydraulic component based on the requirement of an

 Identify symbols used in pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
 Explain the sequence order of pneumatic and hydraulic systems using diagrams

Evidence of the ability to:
• Draw the displacement and timing diagrams of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Choose suitable pneumatic and hydraulic components to perform a specific task .

PC01 Identify malfunctions of pneumatic and hydraulic systems based on their influence on the system
PC02 Document causes of malfunctions in a sequence using displacement diagram

• Apply engineering tools to identify and correct malfunctions in the systems.
• Analyze the faults and conclude corrections

Performance criteria
PC01 Read the manuals and extract safety requirements to work on the systems
PC02 Apply safety working pressures in pneumatic and hydraulic systems
PC03 Comply with international and national safety standards
PC04 Apply safe system of work and procedures as outlined in manuals
PC05 Wear the required PPE while working on systems
Specific evidence requirements
Knowledge Evidence:
The learner must be able to:
 Identify the safety requirements for working in pneumatic and hydraulic systems
 Explain the safety procedures needed before maintenance of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Performance Evidence:
Evidence of the ability to:
• Comply with the safety requirement to perform a task as outlined in manuals.
• Perform a simple risk assessment for a pneumatic /hydraulic system

Ability of the students and instructors to use simulation Software which provide
accurate and real-time simulation of pneumatic and hydraulic systems should be
available.
Students should be given access to spare parts, apparatus, and test equipment
along with the required tools necessary for the work.
8. Range statement The workplace environment should be safe and hazard-free as is practicably
possible, and hazards and risk should be assessed, controlled and minimized.
Systems components should be kept in non-humid, well-ventilated and clean
environment to secure sustainability. The distance between systems should be at
least 2m to allow comfortable and safe maneuvering of equipment.

Assessors and verifiers must satisfy NQC/VETAC requirements with subject
matter expert related to the assessment.
All evidence submitted by the learner must be verified and documented by the
assessor for future evaluation purpose.
All activities must conform to the procedures and requirements of NQC and

Assessment judgements are based on evidence that is valid, authentic, current,
and sufficient, and are consistent with judgements made on similar evidence.
