BEAUTY STANDARD

SPOOF
MARIA FERNANDA GONZALEZ PUENTE - 650102
LUCIANA GONZALEZ HERRERA - 652513
INTRODUCTION
We chose this swimsuit ad because it’s a very unrealistic body standard, we can see how the supermodel is
very toned and fit physically, and yes she probably is in real life but the reality is that the picture is
edited with photoshop and airbrushed, her stomach looks very defined and flat, so after all I dont consider
this ad good for the audience. Even though she’s considered very attractive to the audience, that being men
and women. In most cases women get a different idea, they see that men find these women attractive, so
the women try and follow that beauty standard so that they feel more appreciated by men, or the women
get insanely insecure, they stop eating, they lose all their confidence, and stop being happy because they
simply don’t look like the model in the image.
WHAT IS THE BEAUTY
STANDARD SHOWN IN THE
AD?
PERFECT BODY.
WHAT ARE THEY
"PROMOTING"?
A BIKINI TOP AND BOTTOM.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS
THEIR DEFINITION OF
BEAUTY?
A SLIM, TONED AND
TANNED BODY.
WHAT MIGHT BE THE
EFFECTS OF THE AD ON
THE HEALTH OF THE
VIEWERS?
IT CAN LEAD TO ALOT OF
INSECURITY AND NOT
EATING ENOUGH.
ARE THE PEOPLE IN THE AD
AIRBRUSHED OR WHITEWASHED?
HOW?
THE CHANCES OF IT BEING ARE
99%, BECAUSE SWIMSUIT ADS ARE
ALWAYS EDITED TO LOOK
PERFECT, AND YES I DONT DOUBT
THAT THE GIRL ISNT TONED, BUT
EVERY SINGLE GIRL HAS EITHER
STRECH MARKS, CELLULITE, ETC,
AND CLEARLY IN THE PICTURE SHE
HAS NONE.
WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS
THEY PUT ON THEIR TARGET
AUDIENCE?
THAT THEY WILL ONLY LOOK GOOD
OR FEEL GOOD IN THE SWIMSUIT IF
THEY LOOK LIKE THE MODEL AND
HAVE HER BODY.

OUR CONCLUSION!

We decided to undertake the topic of unrealistic body ideals and

standards because they’re a very big problem in girls self-esteem
nowadays. Our spoof ad criticizes swimsuit ads that expect perfect and
flawless bodies in every girl. Our spoof ad makes fun of the airbrush,
makeup, and excessive ideals of normal swimsuit ads, that promote or
give the idea of what a perfect body should look like. With this ad we want
to raise awareness of body positivity and crush societies body
stereotypes.
