biosecurity.
What is biosecurity?
- To secure an area from harmful
exposure.
- This are the steps we should do to
ensure the safety of our animals.
Biosecurity measures to stop
ASF:
1. Build a pen, do not allow your
pigs to roam around. Do not allow
other animals to go inside your
pig’s house.
Why? Because chickens and dogs
eat “arasaw”, they also go to other
pens therefore making them
carriers of the virus.
2. Always change your clothes,
slippers/boots before tending to
your pigs especially when you
came from areas with ASF. If
possible, keep a separate footwear
to be used inside the pen only.
3. Keeps tools and equipment (pails,
pangtakal ti feeds, stick brooms)
clean. Never use them for other
things on your farm.
4. Do not reuse the water that you
used to clean meat for cooking. Do
not give them to your pigs.
5. Boil swill “arasaw” for 30 minutes
to kill the virus. But if possible,
swill feeding is not advised.
6. Never allow vehicles near your
pigpens. This is applicable to
farms near the road. For secluded
areas, never allow buyers to come
to your pens. Set a meeting place
where you will bring your pig and
where the buyer will pick up the
animal.
7. Newly purchased pigs should be
quarantined for at least 30 days.
You can put them with the others
if no symptoms appear after the 30
days.
8. Do not allow your sow to mate
with unhealthy boar.
