RECORD KEEPING & OTHER HUSBANDRY PRACTICES

RECORD KEEPING
 very important in decision making and accounts for failure or success of
the farm enterprise
 enable to determine the strength, weaknesses, profitability and
productivity of the farm operation

COMPONENTS OF ANIMAL PRODUCTION RECORD


1. IDENTIFICATION RECORD
-date of birth, sex, color markings, horn type, I.D. number
(name of animal), tattoo, breed.
2. PRODUCTION RECORD
-number of kids borne, weaning weight/age, number weaned.
3. BREEDING RECORD
-breeding date, date of parturition, buck used, kidding interval.

• for proper identification & record keeping

MILKING
- Buck should be separated from the milking herd
SANITATION AND PROPER HYGIENE

BOTTLE FEEDING

DEWORMING
 Four times a year or quarterly
 albendazole/valvazen, ivomec
 dosage depends on the concentration of the manufacturer and weight of
the animal
 practiced to prevent and control internal parasitis
EXAMPLE:
 Drenching (Albendazole)
 Injection-SC (Ivomec)

DISINFECTION
 removing all loose dirt, litter and other organic materials from the area.
 use hot water containing detergent or soap.
 scrub the dirt, if practical.
 special attention to feeder, drainage and waste containers.
 heat is the most reliable disinfectant.

BATHING
 to remove the foreign materials in the body of the animals before dipping
or delousing.

DIPPING
 to prevent and control external parasitism.
 Neguvon, Asuntol/coumaphos (concentration depends on the
manufacturer)
NOTE: WEANING
Be sure to protect the eyes, ears and mouth  for dairy purposes, kids maybe weaned totally from does immediately
Always check the animal if it is still breathing after kidding or about 3 days raised by hand milking and then raised by
hand milking (milk replacer)
CASTRATION  for other purposes, raising goats such as goat for slaughter and as
 Surgical Instrument breeders, the kids must weaned at least at the age of 3-4 months.
 Gloves  at weaning, separate the buck kids to doe kids to prevent unexpected
 Chromic Catgut breeding.
 Wound Spray (Combinex)  give vitamins (Vitamin B-Complex) especially those animals that are not
 Tetanus-Antitoxin that well enough to be weaned.
 Syringe
 Antibiotic (Oxytetracycline/Penicillin)

DEHORNING
I. SAW BLADE CUTTING METHOD
 To reduced bruising and injury to other animals in the herd especially
during breeding
 To reduced stress during shipment
 Best time to dehorned:
- Early in the morning
- Late in the afternoon
 Always check if the animal is still breathing
II. SAW BLADE CUTTING METHOD

HOOF TRIMMING
 To prevent foot rot and malformation of the hoof
o Iodine
o Cutter or hoof trimmer
