Internship Area of work
I, Manorama Kumari, got the internship chance this month with an NGO, Jeevan
Sarthak Foundation which is a fantastic opportunity to develop my social working
skills. The primary objective is to outreach the grassroots community, especially
working for them and relating to the ground level issues to resolve and raise voice
for them.
This internship gives me the opportunity to improve my social working skills and
develop social understanding while working for the community in everyday life.

Details of the Concerned Workplace:


Jeevan Sarthak Social and Welfare Society (JEEVAN SARTHAK FOUNDATION)
is a non-profitable organization registered under the society act. We hold the World
Record for “Largest Voluntary Blood Donor Network” in central India besides that
we hold one more World Record for “Nasha Mukti Campaign” and “21-National
Awards” in various fields of Social Services.
Our Jeevan Sarthak Foundation's founding member, Dr. Shailendra Dubey, has
been honoured with his 23rd National Award for his remarkable work in blood
donation and social causes in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.
Sarthak Educational Trust was started in year 2008.
In 2004 while practicing as a dentist, Dr. Aggarwal started losing his vision due to
Macular Degeneration of Retina, a non-treatable concern. During this period he
realized the agony with which a PW D’s goes through due to constraints such as
non-inclusive environment and limited access to resources and opportunities. With
God’s grace and support from various relevant persons he first got himself trained
in screen readers and other software to manage and execute his daily activities
through Computers, and gradually started with skilling and employment of visually
impaired candidates in Medical Transcription in Delhi.

Thus, he envisioned a platform where this dependency can be cured. With this
thought, in 2008 Dr. Aggarwal started with one centre in Delhi and gradually
expanded to 19 centres across the nation.
Through its presence in Delhi, Chandigarh, Gurugram, Ludhiana, Lucknow,
Jaipur , Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Ambala, Bhopal, Kolkata, Ghaziabad,
Faridabad and Chennai with the support of National Skill Development
Corporation, Capgemini India Private Limited, Mahindra Finance and various
other agencies.

Through its Early Intervention and Inclusive Education initiative Sarthak has
rehabilitated 1050+ and 425+ children with disability respectively. And, with
Sarthak Skill Development Centres, has successfully trained 13,000 PW D’s
candidates in the sectors of Tourism & Hospitality, Organized Retail, and IT-ITes.
Furthermore, 100+ job fairs have been organized in 21 states to provide
employment opportunities to those PW D’s candidates who are already skilled.
Through Job fairs and skill centres 16,000 PW D’s have been provided
employment.

Objective:
The main goal of NGO internship program is to acquire real-world experience,
internships at non-governmental organizations (NGOs) offer a chance for people,
particularly students and new graduates, to obtain real-world experience through
practical, hands-on work. Getting this experience can help us gain knowledge and
abilities related to the activities that the NGO does.
Discover the NGO Sector, interns get the chance to gain knowledge about the
objectives, challenges, and day-to-day activities of the NGO sector. This entails
becoming aware of NGOs' methods of operation, the problems they tackle, and the
effects they have on local populations.
Contribute to the Mission, interns frequently assist with the goals and initiatives of
non-governmental organizations. They might help with lobbying, research,
program execution, fundraising, or administrative duties that support the
organization's overarching objectives.
Description of the work:
Since October 1st, 2023, when I started my internship at the NGO, I have been
actively working in social growth and helping people with the basic need’s
fulfilment.

 Food distribution drive:


Distributing food packages near the Hamidia hospital premises to the people
in need and help them get proper and hygienic diet at our best.
 Blanket distribution:
Being part of the NGO, we distributed blankets to the needy people during
winter outbreak.
 Teaching:
We also worked as teachers for the children living in rural areas, we tried our
best to deliver good quality education.
 Blood donation camps:
Regular blood donation camps are a mandatory part of this NGO, being a
volunteer, it is a golden opportunity for us to contribute to the society.

Methodology:

To accomplish the objectives of a non-governmental organization (NGO),


employees must possess a combination of enthusiasm, dedication, and a
methodical approach. This is a common approach that people and non-
governmental organizations frequently use:

Determine the Mission and Cause:


Indicate in detail the cause or social issue that your NGO seeks to resolve.
Create a mission statement that encapsulates the objectives and purpose of
the organization.

Investigation and Needs Analysis:


Investigate the social issue in-depth to determine its underlying causes and
possible remedies.
To determine the target population, their needs, and the gaps in the current
service offering, do a needs assessment.

Planning Strategically:
Create a strategic plan outlining the goals, tactics, and plans of action for the
non-governmental organization.

Establish timeframes for reaching your goals and be sure they are
quantifiable and reasonable.
Involve important parties in the planning process, such as employees,
volunteers, and locals.

Compliance with Laws and Regulations:


Make that the NGO abides by all applicable laws and regulations.
Obtain the required licenses and permits and register the organization with
the relevant authorities.

Resource Gathering:
Locate and acquire financial resources, including grants, contributions, and
alliances.
To maintain financial stability, create a diverse fundraising plan.

Recruiting and Team Building:


Assemble a talented and driven group of people with a range of backgrounds
related to the goals of the company.
Give employees and volunteers clear roles and duties.

Engaging the Community:


Build trusting relationships with the community by learning about its needs
and including people from the community in decision-making.
Organize awareness campaigns and outreach programs to include the
community in the NGO's projects.

Execution of the Program:


Create and carry out initiatives and programs in accordance with the mission
and objectives of the organization.
Program efficacy should be routinely monitored and evaluated, with
necessary improvements made.
Influence on Policy and Advocacy:
Promote policy modifications that support the goals of the organisation.
Work together with stakeholders, other NGOs, and government agencies to
bring about constructive change.

Observation and Assessment:


Establish a thorough monitoring and evaluation framework to gauge the
success of the NGO's initiatives.
Utilize feedback and data to iteratively refine and modify tactics.

Openness and Responsibility:


Keep programmatic and financial operations transparent.
Provide procedures for reporting to the public, donors, and beneficiaries,
among other stakeholders.

Outreach and Communication:


Create a compelling communication plan to spread the word about the
NGO's activities.
Share impact and success stories across a variety of platforms, including as
events, press releases, and social media.

Increasing Capacity:
Make an investment in the ongoing education and training of your
employees and volunteers.

Increase in knowledge and skills:

Participating in an internship with a non-governmental organization (NGO) can


lead to a significant increase in knowledge and the development of various skills. I
have learnt the following skills by working as a volunteer:
Acquire in-depth knowledge about the specific social issue or cause the
NGO addresses, including its root causes, impact, and potential solutions.
Understand the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and
projects aimed at addressing social challenges.

Develop research skills, including the ability to gather and analyze data,
assess community needs, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making.
Gain hands-on experience in project management, including planning,
execution, and monitoring of initiatives within the NGO.

Enhance communication skills by working on tasks such as writing reports,


creating outreach materials, and presenting findings to diverse audiences.
Learn effective strategies for engaging with communities, building
relationships, and involving stakeholders in the decision-making process.
Understand the principles of advocacy and policy influence, including how
NGOs can work to effect positive change at the policy level. Gain insights

Conclusion:
To sum up, my impression of the internship with Jeevan Sarthak Foundation
has been both educational and fulfilling. The chance to learn more about
environmental and social issues. An internship with an NGO gives interns
the opportunity to support initiatives and causes that benefit society. This
may bring me personal fulfilment and satisfaction.
My love for social work is extra ordinary and this internship helped me to
groom myself and to understand the issues of my society at the grassroot
level. The best possible services are provided by this Sarthak foundation
which pushed me as a volunteer to participate as much as I could.
