Making difficult decisions show up in life more often than realized. These choices can
alter a person s life in good and bad ways. The Bicycle by Jillian Horton is a story that
focuses on a young talented pianist named Hannah. Throughout the story Hannah deals
with the strict teachings of her Tante Rose, which leads her to make ironic decisions.
Similarly, in the story Lather and Nothing Else by Hernando Tellez, the barber undergoes
a dilemma in which he must consider his moral values before making his final decision.
Both stories have a protagonist that face conflicts which lead to difficult decision

Horton and Tellez both portray the theme of making difficult choices in their stories.
The protagonist s in each story consider all their options and think ahead before
making a life changing decision. In the stories The Bicycle and Lather and Nothing
Else both Horton and Tellez use symbolism to portray an overall theme of making
difficult choices. In The Bicycle Hannah has her life completely controlled by her
Tante Rose. She has no freedom because she is forbidden to break the Sabbath in
anyway, and due to Tante Rose s previous traumatic experience with a bicycle, she is
absolutely forbidden to ride one. In the end, Hannah chooses to go against her aunts
wishes and rides a bicycle. She expresses that she wanted to prove she had some
control over her own life (Horton 35). The bicycle acts as a symbol of freedom; from
Hannah breaking the promise she made to her Tante Rose, to having control of her own
life and becoming who she wanted to be from the start. Likewise, in Lather and Nothing
Else the barber untimely had a choice of being a murderer or hero. The razor blade is one
of the most important symbols because it represents his choice of killing the captain or
not. This was how the barber would determine his future. He says, I was stropping my
best blade . (Tellez 346). My fate hangs on the edge of this razor blade . (Tellez 346).
This was a big moral dilemma for the barber, and at this point he was really choosing

The Higher Power Of Lucky Analysis
Whenever I asked my older sister a question, she would give me great advice, Just
Google it, Sabrina. I couldn t help myself from seeing the world as a puzzle begging to
be solved. With an inquisitive nature and insatiable curiosity, I ve wanted to learn from
new perspectives, whenever I could, and from whoever I could. I would spend half a

we were studying. I was the kid who asked my fifth grade teacher what a scrotum was

The internet is a place where anyone can go to share and communicate their ideas.
Whether I had questions about what a song meant, what type of gift my seven year old
cousin would like, what the opinions of the Israeli Palestinian conflict were, or what a
personal statement should look like, there was never a lack of Google results, each
backed up by a person s thoughts and interpretations.
My grandma loved to share everything she knew in life, never hesitating to answer any
question I asked, or didn t ask. Our time together would be limited to the time I spend in

world, I am able to keep asking her questions about my family, my Chinese culture, and
my world.
Though technology is sometimes considered the antithesis of human contact, it also
allows people to connect to others when they may be separated by distance. But
technology is not limited to communicating with friends and family, it can be used to

What Is Wrong With Descartes Causal Proof Of God
What is Wrong with Descartes Causal Proof of God
René Descartes was born on 31 March 1596 in La Haye, France; a city which was later
renamed as Descartes in his honor. his early life was not well documented until 1960, but
it is known that he was familiar with mathematics and philosophy (Hatfield). Sometimes
described as The Father of Modern Philosophy , not only considered a great philosopher,
but also a great mathematician, contributed greatly for both areas Cartesian geometry, for
instance, was named in his honor (Norman 19). In his Meditations, Descartes uses a
causal argumentation to prove the existence of a perfect being, who he considers to be
God; these conclusions are controversial, since problems can be found in the arguments
used (Hartfield). Based on the arguments used to draw his conclusions, this essay is
going to discuss some apparent flaws in Descartes s causal proof of God.
In Meditations, Descartes discusses the false beliefs he held during his life, and in order
to eliminate them, attempts to deconstruct all of his knowledge and reinvent it with a
solid foundation made only with what is absolutely true. For this, he would deconstruct
everything he perceived as true, starting from his senses ( A Posteriori , or, according to
Baehr, something that needs proper justification through experience), to mathematics ( A
Priori , or, according to Baehr, something that can be known without experiencing) and
finally reaching the fundamental truth. Also
