The Accomplishments of William Faulkner
William Faulkner is one of the best American authors of the early Twentieth Century.
Born on September 25, 1897, in New Albany, Mississippi, Faulkner enjoys his younger
years painting, reading and writing. Faulkner does not graduate from high school
because school is not appealing to him. Instead, Faulkner invests his time as a carpenter,
soldier, farmer, politician, businessman, lawyer, and an author. Out of his job
accomplishments, Faulkner gravitates to writing. When Faulkner attended the University
of Mississippi, he wrote short poetry for the Times Picayune and The Double Dealer. It
is during this time that Faulkner enhances his writing ability. Once Faulkner began to
write novels, it became his passion. Faulkner publishes his first collection of poetry, The
Marble Faun in 1924 (Faulkner). Faulkner s novels are challenging to read, but not

Faulkner uses natural analogies to bring home his point of view. The novel deals with the
evaluation of modern capitalism. According to Sarah Churchwell, Faulkner uses a
stream of consciousness narration to suggest the way that Benjy s mind flows through
time: memory, reality and emotion meet, shift, and kaleidoscopically recombine . The
novel is based on values from the South. It is a novel that leads the reader down the
same storyline multiple times through different characters. Because of this, it requires
the reader to pay chose attention. The novel causes the reader to figure out what is
taking place within the novel. The novel gives key points to help the reader piece
together what the novel is saying (Churchwell). Some readers think that reading The
Sound and the Fury novel without having a prior understanding is like riding in the fog
without headlights. The novel can be challenging to read, but is very rewarding to the

Lying Is A Day For Day Fact Of Life Essay
Abstract
Lying is a day to day fact of life. According to Bella DePaulo, Ph.D., a person will lie
one in every five times of their daily interactions (Chiu, Hong, Chiu, 2016). Deceit,
whether for a high stake reason such as to cover up a crime, or a little white lie such as,
Your hair looks great, can be difficult to detect. Discerning whether a person is being
honest has yet to become a science, but researchers have found techniques that are
effective in uncovering the truth. While there are several different ways interrogators
discern the truth from a lie, this paper will focus on the detection of deception through the
carefully crafted interview technique of reading facial expressions. It is believed that if
an interviewer is properly trained to question a subject, the truth can be uncovered and
deceit can be detected approximately 70% of the time (Vrij Granhag, 2014). To discover
if this can be done, an experiment will be conducted in a controlled environment to
determine if an interviewer can accurately detect falsified emotions on different subjects.
Evaluating Truthfulness and Detecting Deceit
Everybody lies (Hutchinson, 2015). It is not uncommon for people to tell lies on a day
to day basis for many different reasons, such as to avoid conflict, to make themselves
look better, to avoid consequences of their actions, or to avoid hurting someone else s
feelings (Chiu, Hong, Chiu, 2016). So, with lying being so common, how can someone
effectively detect when they
How Does Gertrude Change In Hamlet
In William Shakespeare s Hamlet Gertrude marries her deceased Husband s brother,
whom she shows minimal affection and she rarely expresses any feelings or desires
independent of those of him. Gertrude is a weak, submissive woman who is easily
influenced by authoritative men, however her redeeming quality is she truly cares for
her son and has just enough independence to at least think separately of Claudius. Her
inability to express personal feelings leads to her unfortunate circumstances, which
demonstrates the Firstly, in the early portion of the play we rarely hear Gertrudespeak, or
express unique feelings or opinions. We are unsure of her specific feelings about her
marriage to Claudius, his assumption of the throne, or her... Show more content on

She summons Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to learn what has become of Hamlet s mental
state. This is to Hamlet s great annoyance, but it does show Gertrude is worried and
desires to ensure his well being. After Hamlet angrily expresses his feelings about
Claudius and his belief that he is responsible for the death of the old king Hamlet.
Gertrude half betrays Hamlet by telling Claudius Mad as the sea and wind when both
contented behind the arras hearing something stir whips out his rapier, cries A rat, a
rat! and in this brainish apprehension kills the unseen old man (IV.I,8 12) she tells him
about the event and that Hamlet has killed Polonius despite Hamlet s request that she
not, but choosing to leave out the part where Hamlet suspects Claudius of murder is
why it is only a half betrayal. Her choice to leave out this crucial detail means Claudius
will continue to believe Hamlet is mentally deteriorating, rather than upset over
Claudius crime. Since it is clear Claudius has no reservations about murdering those
who stand in his way of the crown it can be assumed he would kill or at least jail
Hamlet if he were to become aware of the murder of old king Hamlet. Gertrude may not
be aware of the gravity of the situation, but her choice to leave out Hamlet s suspicions
in her report to Claudius is an effort to protect Hamlet and ensure Claudius has no reason
to harm
The Between Positive And Positive Freedom On The
Relations...
Freedom is a difficult doctrine to definite in politics (Berlin, 1969). Philosophy
emphasized entirely determined by the public, particularly in sociology and economics
(Swift, 2007). Liberty can clarify the distinction between negative and positive liberty,
the following part of this essay covers two issues (Berlin, 1969). Meanwhile, the second
purpose in this essay is to explore the implication of negative and positive freedom on the
relationship between the individual and the states which will utilize different real
instance in the world.

Modern liberalism tends to advocate as positive freedom which prefers to sacrifice

personal interest toward general will (Berlin, 1969). General will is meant that the public

Something may bring harm impact on political activities, the generation of Hitler s
Germany which takes over in positive freedom as autocracy (Loflin, 2014). On the
hand, majority rule has been decided by minority participation during the democratic
process like Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, the administration which has decided from
1,200 people to represents 7 million citizens (Leg Co, 2014). Some critic claims that the
minority may not in accordance with the real interest of human. Moreover, some people
disputed that people may suffer from oppression in the positive liberty. Actually, if the
state would not stand at a boundary of positive freedom obviously that may lose the
object toward the common good and make the individual tends to be a subordinate role ,
no matter the state would be a dominant on this relationship.

Second, the negative concept of freedom is most commonly assumed in liberal defenses
of the constitutional liberties typical of liberal democratic societies, for example,
freedom of movement, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech, and prevention of
paternalist or moralist state intervention (Swift, 2007). The government aims the citizens
should achieve self sufficient and self realization, also would not rely on the state
(Tansey, 1995).

Negative freedom (Formal freedom) can describe two diversities term (Barry, 2000).
Firstly, law has been the main restriction of human freedom (Barry, 2000). Undoubtedly,
freedom advocates self determinate as the
Female Athletes Get Paid
In the United states females make about seventy seven cents for every dollar a male
makes. This is a huge difference and is unequal if both sexes are getting paid for doing
similar jobs. Even though this seems like a huge difference in wages, the difference in
wage is a huge difference in professional sports. Many would argue that femaleathletes
should get paid the same as maleathletes, but there are also many that would argue the
opposite. Genderequality laws call for this, but the fact that female athletes do not
provide the same profit as male athletes is not noted when it comes to these laws. Next,
both males and females spend the same amount of training when it comes to
strengthening their teams, but at the same time male athletes do... Show more content on

In the National Basketball Association (NBA), the minimum salary is $507,336
(Bernucca) and the maximum salary for players with 10 plus years is $20,644,400
(Bernucca) while the Women s National Basketball Association (WNBA) has a
minimum salary of $37,950 (Adler) and the maximum is $107,000 (Adler). There is
noticeably a big difference because the absolute minimum in the NBA is $400,000
more than the maximum in the WNBA. The NBA must have a very high profit if they
are able to pay their athletes half a million dollars at the very least compared to the
WNBA s $107,000 maximum salary. Another big difference is the attendance of fans
at games which provide a majority of the profit for athletics. In division one college
basketball, which is the highest division for college athletics, the average home fan
attendance for male competition in 2014 was 4,817 compared to 1,526 for female
competition and this is with most colleges in the U.S. sharing the arenas between males
and females. It is clear to see that the females are not making the same profit as the males
since they are not getting anywhere close to the amount of average fan attendance at their
sporting events. This shows that the difference is not only seen in professional sports,
but in
