(Q1.1) How do you see a “world society” in a globalized context? (Q1.

2) How
do you see Philippine norms, values, and political and economic systems
changed due to globalization?

Q1.1 In a cultural context, I see a world society where countries retain their own
cultural identities while absorbing ideal values and norms from others. Though, in a
business context, I believe the world society will become even more business-driven
than it is now. Globalization can bring in more job opportunities for anyone with a
diploma and business opportunities to those who can afford it. However, I am not
sure if this will also be beneficial to the lower class and the indigenous people of the
Philippines.

Q1.2 In the context of work, Filipino values will most likely be the same, though I do
think Filipinos will gradually transition towards putting more importance on having a
good work-life balance rather than being extremely hardworking. However, Filipino
norms related to the perception of jobs that are not “real jobs” (i.e., creative jobs)
might change positively. Most Filipinos, especially from the older generation,
perceive jobs that add a title to your name like Engr., Dr., Atty., etc. are big paying
jobs, while those that do not, give you pennies. Globalization can change this
perspective by introducing opportunities to those in industries that are looked down
on by the older generation. This may let them see that there is money to made in an
industry that does not add a title at the front of your name. Political and economic
systems, however, will probably gear towards making decisions regarding the
regulation, amplification, or mitigation of the effects of globalization on the people
and the country’s economy and resources. I assume this in hopes of keeping
businesses profitable and competitive.

(Q2.1) How do you characterize the global response to the CoViD-19 pandemic?
(Q2.2) How does the Philippines support the global effort in addressing the
pandemic?
Q2.1 I have little to say about the global response towards CoViD-19. I just think
most countries handled it the best they can by closing themselves off to other
countries to prevent the virus from spreading.

Q2.2 By enforcing quarantine protocols to contain the virus and sourcing vaccines
from different manufacturers to vaccinate the population. Through these efforts, the
Philippines is doing its part in mitigating the effects of the pandemic. At the
beginning of the pandemic, however, the government was taking questionable
courses of action. It is of note that the president refused to enforce a travel ban to
and from China as doing so may negatively affect our diplomatic relationship with
them.1 The government eventually enforced it, but only after a Chinese national,
infected with CoViD, died in the country. 2 It was as if the president was endangering
the public through these actions. However, the decision may also be due to the
political red tape it had to go through.

(Q3.1) What aspect of globalization influenced your decision to take your

undergraduate major? (Q3.2) How do you see yourself becoming an agent of
change through your chosen industry?

Q3.1 The spread of information regarding video games and how they were made. As
a teen, I fell in love with playing video games and I later learned about programming,
which is something that can be used to create video games. Afterwards, I jumped on
the train to learn more about programming, and I took a liking to it.

Q3.2 Through a lot of effort and determination. This is because doing something
significant in programming takes a lot of time, sleepless nights, google searches, and
trial and error. What’s more interesting is that the amount of effort I will be exerting
will vary depending on the type of program I’m creating.
