Clearing The Path To Crisis : Deforestation in Accelerating Climate Change

Deforestation means the widespread removal of forests or trees from a particular area, often
for purposes for instance logging, agriculture, or urban development. This activity has a
significant connection to climate change. Forests play a big role in control the climate change.
The forest act as a carbon sinks, absorbing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
When the forests have been vanished, the stored carbon will release back into the atmosphere.
Deforestation driven by various human activities had ruined the global climate system by
releasing stored carbon, exacerbating the greenhouse effect and accelerating climate change.
Therefore, we have to decrease deforestation for climate stability and the well-being of
future generations.

At the beginning, deforestation is the extensive and deliberate removal of trees from a
specific area, resulting in the conversion of forested land to non-forested land. There are a few
process of deforestation. Firstly, clear-cutting. Clear-cutting involves the complete removal of
all trees in the selected area. The result is we will significant loss of forest cover. Secondly,
selective logging. The specific tree species will be remove for commercial purposes, leaving
the rest of the forests there. Thirdly, slash and burn agriculture. In this process, forests are
cleared by cutting down tress and burning the forest to produce fertile land for cultivation. In
addition, infrastructure development. This is to make a way for urban expansion, roads,
highways and others. It will cause the habitat loss and fragmentation. Fifth, shifting agriculture.
Farmers will periodically clear small area of forests. They farm the land for a few years and
move on to clear another area. This process leaving a trail of deforestation.

Hence, there are some impacts of deforestation on climate change. Deforestation

increased the greenhouse gas emmisions. As we know, trees store vast amounts of carbon in
their biomass and soils. If forests are cleared, the stored carbon will release into the atmosphere
in the form of carbon dioxide. The heat in the Earth's atmosphere will be trap and leads to
global warming. Subsequently, reduced carbon sequestration. Deforestation reduces the Earth's
capacity to sequester carbon, exacerbating the buildup of atmosphere carbon dioxide and other
greenhouse gases. Next, ocean acidification. When the atmospheric carbon dioxide increased,
it can contribute to ocean acidification that will harm marine ecosystems and the
organisms within them.
In addtition, there are few solutions and mitigation strategies to face this issue. The
government must make the forest conservation and protected areas. They need to establish and
expand protected areas to preserve critical forest ecosystems. Secondly, the government have
to launch the reforestation and afforestation initiatives to plant trees and restore degraded
forests areas. Furthermore, we should encourage agroforestry practices that combine with
agriculture to maintain forest cover while meeting food production needs. Last but not least,
we have to raise awareness among consumers about the impact of their purchasing decisions
on deforestation.

In conclusion, the release of stored carbon into the atmosphere, exacerbating the
greenhouse effect and accelerating climate stability had cause the critical threat to the global
climate system driven by human activities. In addition , we must take a few actions to stop the
deforestation , for instance establish and expand protected areas, launch the reforestation and
afforestation, encourage agroforestry practices and raise awareness among consumers.
