After seven months of planning at the highest levels, an operation that was to be the
crux in Germany s strategy for invading France rested on the shoulders of a competent
but lowly company grade officer, Lieutenant Rudolph Witzig. Thirty five minutes into
the attack, victory was assured. Fort Eben Emael s guns lay in pieces, it s men in
puddles, and the door to France swung open violently. From an uninformed, superficial
level, the storming of Fort Eben Emael may appear to be nothing more than luck, an
unrepeatable combination of uncontrollable variables accidentally aligned in the attacker
s favor. After all, the attack featured the untested use of gliders and shape charges, a ten

Situated north of the French Maginot Line, Eben Emael dominated the surrounding
countryside and served to protect key bridges along the Albert Canal with its
innumerable guns. The fort s poured concrete perimeter was surrounded by barbed
wire, steel obstacles, and minefields all within the protective range of guns ranging
from 60mm to 120mm. Calling to mind the impregnable castles of the middle ages,
Eben Emael s western flank was protected by a moat. Underneath the surface tunnels
connected the major battle positions and provided living quarters complete with
redundant generators. Eben Emael was not only the impenetrable defensive cornerstone
of Belgium, it was a veritable military metropolis providing the basic necessities for the
authorized force of 1,200 men garrisoned behind its walls and under its surface. The
commander, Major Jen Jottrand even established a soccer field for the men to pass the
time incidentally, the field was perfect for landing German

The Importance Of The Heroic Tale Of Sundiata
Throughout history, storytellers have used fantastic fables to entertain his or her
audience. Filled with larger than life characters and amazing tales of heroism, on the
surface these fables simply seem like mass entertainment much in the same way comic
book heroes entertain us today on the silver screen. However, most of the time these epic,
fantastic tales have a much deeper purpose for both the storyteller and the audience.
While the stories aim to entertain, more importantly, the epic tales exist to hand down
crucial histories from generation to generation. This is important to the culture in which
the story takes place, and is a true observation for the story of Sundiata, the founding of
the MaliEmpire, and the descendants of these Mali people. While on the surface, the
story is a heroic tale of Sundiata s early life as he overcomes many obstacles, defeats
mystical and magical foes, and finally emerges triumphant, it is really a tale designed to
teach the audience the history of the Mali Empireand the values and culture of the Mali
people. This is tremendously important to the Mali people back when the story was first
told and is still important to them today.
As a historical oral epic, the tale of Sundiata tells the reader the story of the creation of
the Mali Empire. The events of the tale take place during the early 13th century and
detail the early, difficult life of Sundiata up until his final victory over the evil Soros.
After this victory, Sundiata

Authors Ratts, Singh, Butler, Nassar Mcmillan, and McCullough in Multicultural and
Social Justice Counseling Competencies laid the foundation for what is correctness in the
field of counseling competency, which serves as a guide in helping me to become a
professional counselor. The article gives a clear synapsis of how it is important for a
counselor to look at various skills in counseling such as advocacy interventions,
counseling relationship, client worldviews, and counselor self awareness. During the
readings, I kept putting myself into the picture as the authors spoke. Thus, I paid

Which brings me to my next point. Why as a counselor do I pay attention to
multicultural counseling competencies? The article clearly pointed out that in order
for a counselor to help in terms of making a difference in a client s life, a counselor
should use their skills to build up and not to breakdown the clients self determination.
In addition, as a culturally competent counselor, engagement in various advocacies and
social change issues, plays a critical role within the profession. Therefore, it is good
practice to have a keen sense of professional relationship with clients while not
crossing boundaries and always keeping the client s perspective in view. There are
other areas of importance to take note of, such as one s biases in order or to be
culturally competent as a professional counselor. I need to understand biases and be
able to validate someone else. Which means that the values of the client must be realized
as a tool of empowerment which would allow for collaborative efforts in order to bring
about social change which leads to social justice. Consequently, giving individuals or
groups autonomy and their right to self determination becomes a
