Nancy Barrios recorded the details of an upper and lower body workout, including exercises performed, weights used, repetitions completed, and heart rate measurements. She noted feeling good after the floor press and being surprised by her ability to do 10 repetitions. Her upper body is her weaker area. Weights decreased as exercises progressed due to fatigue. Dumbbell extensions were particularly challenging. Squats also proved more difficult than expected. Overall, the workout left her muscles tingling and she felt replenishing electrolytes would help with recovery. Her sons watched and were surprised to see her using their equipment for a school assignment.

I used exercise equipment that I already have at home, so I was a little limited on the weights. My boys play baseball, and one of them plays a little more competitively (travel baseball), so I did have things on hand because of the work that he puts in. I feel like what I do have did work for what I was doing. My older son is 11, and I’m both happy and embarrassed to say that his equipment works for me. After the floor press, I felt good. I surprised myself by being able to do 10 reps. I consider my upper body the weaker half of me. I didn’t leave too much time in between each exercise, so the prior exercise may have also affected how I did. The shoulder press was probably a little easier for me, but I did get to the point where I felt like I had done enough. The weight got lower as I did most exercises. The dumbbell row and the dumbbell curl felt similar. I probably could’ve done a dew more repetitions of each, but I knew I had more to do. Once I got to the dumbbell extension, I had to lower the weight drastically. I know this was not just because I had done other things, but because that’s an area of my muscles that I don’t work out often or use regularly. I couldn’t even to do one good repetition with the 20 lb dumbbell when it came to the extension. As soon as I tried, the dumbbell was wobbling all over the place. For the squats, I wasn’t sure if I should incorporate my own weight into the weight. I used the barbell, and of course my own weight is included in that. I am 5’7” and overweight at 204 lbs. I was surprised by the squats because I’ve always felt that my legs are strong, but I wasn’t able to do as much more than I thought I would be able to. This was fun, though. Even as I’m typing this, I can feel the effect on mt muscles. They’re all a little tingly and I feel like maybe I should take a drink of coconut water to get some electrolytes in. Also, my boys were here watching me the whole time, asking me what I was doing. They know that I hike, but they rarely see me lift their weights. They were shocked when they learned that I was doing homework.
