Truths about DSAT

5 the Digital SAT

by

Q: How long is the test?

A: The DSAT is shorter than the paper SAT. The paper SAT used to take 3 hours and 15 minutes to

complete, and the DSAT will take 2 hours and 14 minutes to complete.

Q: How will the reading section be affected?

A: There will be shorter reading passages, and only one question per passage on the Digital SAT. On

the paper SAT, there used to be multiple questions related to one long passage.

Q: How will the math section be affected?

A: Unlike the paper SAT, on the Digital SAT you will have access to a calculator on the entire math

section. You can practice using the Desmos online calculator here. Read the how-to guide here.

Q: If the DSAT is shorter, how will it continue to accurately measure

my capabilities?

A: The DSAT is an adaptive test, meaning how you do on the first module of the math and reading

determines which questions you’ll get on the second part. If you do well in the first module, the

second will be harder, but you can get more questions wrong without being penalized.

Scores on the DSAT are equivalent to scores on the paper SAT. For example, a 1350 on the DSAT

doesn’t mean anything more or less in comparison to a 1350 on the paper SAT.

Q: If the test is shorter, and it s all online, will I get my score bac k

faster?

A: E !!! The College Board says that “scores will be delivered much faster with the digital SAT Suite,
Y S

in days instead of weeks”, which might be faster than the speed at which your teachers grade your

tests.
