Exam
The Digital SAT exam is a new computer-based version of the SAT, developed by the
College Board. It's set to launch in the United States in spring 2024 and internationally
in spring 2023.
Shorter Test: The Digital SAT exam will be shorter than the current paper-and-pencil
test. It will take about 2 hours and 14 minutes to complete, as opposed to the 3 hours
for the traditional test.
Adaptive Format: This test is more adaptive, which means the questions you get will
depend on how you perform on previous questions. This is designed to make the test
more accurate and fair for all students.
No Separate Essay Section: Unlike the current SAT, the Digital SAT exam won't have
a separate essay section. Instead, the writing part will be integrated into the reading
section. This means you'll be asked to write short essays in response to reading
passages.
Modern and Accessible: The Digital SAT exam aims to be a more modern and
efficient version of the SAT. It's also designed to be accessible to students with
disabilities and students from diverse backgrounds.
Overall, the Digital SAT is a more streamlined and up-to-date version of the test, making
it more convenient and fair for students.
Math Section:
- Also divided into two modules, each containing 22 questions.
- Covers a wide range of math topics, such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and
data analysis.
- Some questions are multiple choice, while others require numerical answers.
Overall Format:
- Total time: 2 hours and 14 minutes.
- Sections: Reading and Writing, Math.
- Modules: Each section has two equal-length modules.
- Total questions: 52 in the Reading and Writing section, 44 in the Math section.
- Question types: Multiple choice and grid-in (numerical answers).
Adaptive Testing:
- The Digital SAT uses adaptive testing, meaning question difficulty adapts based on a
student's previous answers.
- This adaptive approach aims to make the test more accurate and fair for all students.
Overall, the Digital SAT offers a more streamlined and personalized testing experience,
with a focus on assessing essential reading, writing, and math skills.
Math Section:
- Module 1: 35 minutes
- Module 2: 35 minutes
Additionally, students are given a 10-minute break between the Reading and Writing
section and the Math section. This means the entire Digital SAT can be completed in 2
hours and 14 minutes, making it shorter than the 3-hour paper-and-pencil SAT.
This format allows students to pace themselves through the test while maintaining a
manageable overall testing time.
To cancel your Digital SAT registration, you must log into your My SAT account and click
on the "Cancel Registration" button. You will then be prompted to pay the cancellation
fee.
How is Digital SAT Exam Scored?
The Digital SAT is scored on a scale of 200-800 for each section, for a total score of
400-1600. The scores for the Reading and Writing section and the Math section are
added together to get the total score.
The Digital SAT uses adaptive testing, which means that the difficulty of the questions
students get will be based on their performance on previous questions. This is designed
to make the test more accurate and fair for all students.
To calculate a student's score, the College Board uses a process called equating.
Equating takes into account the difficulty level of the test form and ensures that scores
from different test forms are equivalent.
