Directions: Read the situation and answer the questions that

follow.

Ever since you entered school, you fine math subjects easy. You
have a knack for mathematics and you often wondered why your
classmates find math so difficult. In your senior year in high
school, you have three subjects that involves math: Physics,
Trigonometry and Advanced Algebra. So far, your classmates are
coping with trigonometry and Algebra; it is Physics that is their
problem.
Before finals, your Physics teacher tells you that you are exempted
from taking the final exam because of your excellent performance
in her subject. Your classmates, however, are not so blesses. Half
of the class may fail Physics and tutoring them, helps a little.
A week before the finals, your teacher leaves her marker and
eraser in the faculty room and asks you to get it for her. On the
table are the test papers for the final exams.
There is nobody else in the room, so you take a picture of the test
questions without really knowing why.
On your way home, you are bothered as to what to do with the
picture. The questions are difficult and knowing your classmate’s
ability, they are sure to fail. But if you leak the questions, they’re
sure, to pass and eventually graduate. What will you do?
Questions:
1. What would a man of virtue do?
Answer: If a man is righteous and full of high moral standards or in
short, a virtuous man, giving this situation to him/her. Obviously,
he or she will not leak the final exams questionnaire because a
virtuous person is someone that focuses on living a morally correct
life and able to handle any situation that life throws up at them in
an excellent manner. For me, a virtuous man knows that cheating
on exams will not teach students to learn anything. In fact, it is just
a waste of time for you and for your teacher because school is not
about grades or number but school is about learning.

2. What would a man who knows his duty do?

I think a good student who knows his duty will not leak also the
questionnaire to his classmates just to pass them all because a
student who knows his duty is able to study hard, engage in
positive social interaction, learn to be responsible, learn to make
good decisions, show care and consideration towards others and
learn to appreciate and accept the difference. For him, giving the
answers to his classmates on the Physics exam is just like giving
money freely to people who do not have the capability to earn
money. A good student sees cheating as does not allow you to
learn anything and you can't automatically have things done
without exerting efforts and time in school works. It is immoral to
cheat because you are inhibiting that innocent person's right to
progress in life. That's why cheating in school is wrong from a
good student's perspective.
3. What would a consequentialist do?
I presume, the consequentialist will not leak the actual test
questionnaire to his classmates because he is worried of
consequences of letting his classmates cheat on the examination. If
the teacher found out that one of promising students take a
picture of the actual exam he will be punished by the school like
expulsion or academic probation and from the worst case you'll
lose your scholarship because of cheating.

4. Which one are you? Explain your answer.

I think I'll be the man who knows his duty because for me that's
shows how responsible a student is who doesn't want cheating.
For me cheating, can be wrong or be correct, it all depends on the
situation. Cheating becomes wrong when you have enough time
for studying but out of laziness you didn't study at all. Cheating in
exams is not wrong if you have studied a lot for an exam and for
the sake of confusion you ask someone whether your answer is
wrong or right. In this situation, I won't leak the final examination. I
know some people don't like subjects that requires mathematics
but for me knowledge is powerful because that would be useful for
the future ahead. From my standpoint, cheating clearly does not
provide any advantage except in obtaining meaningless grade, as
grades are obtained by cheating have no meaning since it does
not reflect your ability on which you are being graded.
