THE SACRIFICE

Cast of Characters

Barian Santoso : A guy who has a huge love for a girl since elementary school.
He is kind, soft and heart-touched guy.

Yarana Olivia : A strong girl, very cheerful, has a lot of positive vibes around,

cute, and has a big-heart.

Mr & Mrs. Dahlia : Yarana Olivia’s parents. Parents who open their hearts to
accept the condition of their daughter. Patient, sincere, and
very dear to their daughter

Andreas Jevano : A guy who also loves Yarana so much. He is an adorable guy
that Yarana is very proud of.

Time

The Present and The Past

A woman who is lying weak in the hospital after an accident one year ago. Some of
the people around him tried to look after the woman with great affection even
though there was one person who was in pain from all that happened.
 SETTING 1

PLACE : HOSPITAL’S ROOM

TIME : PRESENT

AT RISE : ONE ROOM IN THE HOSPITAL, THERE ARE TWO CHAIRS,

WITH ONE WOMAN LYING DOWN THERE

RIAN

"Ra ..."

(Looks quietly at the woman lying on the hospital bed. Try to call, trying to wake her
up. However, the effort he had done since one year was still unsuccessful).

Every day, inside of his busy life, he always comes to visit, and heaved a sigh
of relief if he found that the patient monitor was still moving up and down — not
showing a flat line. Hoping one day, all survival aids applied on Ara’s body are
removed. Hoping Ara will get back healthy.

(DOOR IS OPENING)

SOMEONE

"Hey, have you been a long time?"

RIAN

(Shocked)

. "No, ma'am. Around 15 minutes."

(Smile)

MRS. DAHLIA

"Sorry. I have just gone to the supermarket. Have you eaten?"

RIAN

(Nodds)
"You?"

(He asks back)

MRS. DAHLIA

"Already, with Ara’s father, but he has returned to the office. I have finished all the
work, so I can go home rather quickly today. "

(Arranging the items she bought on the table’s room)

RIAN

(Nodds)

"Have a rest, ma'am."

(Tells, to the figure of a woman who is really strong, sitting in front of him. In fact,
since one year ago, her smile was never faded, even she was placed in the position of
her only-one child fought against her life and breath.)

MRS DAHLIA

(Dahlia throw herself on the chair)

"Time flies so fast and.. it's been a year." Dahlia is looking at Ara, who is lying
down, still with her stern smile.

RIAN

"Yes, ma'am." (Says softly)

PLACE : SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL GARDEN

AT RISE : TWO STUDENTS SAT DOWN IN GRASS

YARANA

"I met Vano, again."

RIAN

(Looked at Ara then Smile)

"Then?"

YARANA

"He smiled at me,"

RIAN

"Ra, if anyone has a crush on you, what do you do?"

(Laughed, then cursed himself)

Talking to self: “ Gosh. How stupid he asked like that! Rian is surely considered only
as her best friend”

YARANA

"Hmm ..."

(She seemed to think,)

“Anyone?" – She asked, so innocent.

 RIAN

"I don't know,"

(Rian laughed, followed by the elbow of her disgusted arm.)

Talking to self: I do, ra. Your friend is starting to like you.

PLACE : HOSPITAL’S ROOM

TIME : PRESENT

AT RISE : ONE ROOM IN THE HOSPITAL, THERE ARE TWO CHAIRS,

WITH ONE WOMAN LYING DOWN THERE

MRS DAHLIA

"Son, are you busy today?"

RIAN

(Rian is shocked, surprises to the question Dahlia asked, from his reverie
about Ara)

"No, ma'am."

MRS DAHLIA

"Can I ask for help to take care of Ara? My client suddenly told me that there was... "

RIAN

"Mom, it's fine." (Refutes)

MRS DAHLIA

(Dahlia looks relieved)

"Sorry," (She stands up, begin to tidy up the file and put it back in the bag)

"I'm bothering you."

 RIAN

"It is okay." (Rian smiles)

"I’m absolutely delighted, ma'am."

MRS DAHLIA

"Please eat this foods,"

(Dahlia points to the foods she bought at the supermarket earlier and walks out of the
room after an obedient nod from Rian)

PLACE : YARANA’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM

TIME : PAST

AT RISE : WATCHING TV

YARANA

"Ian, after the graduation announcement, shall we take a vacation to the beach?"

(Ara was scrolling her Instagram timeline, searching for vacation spots to go to)

"Or a mountain?"

RIAN

"Or the Mall?" (Laughed)

YARANA

"Ish," (Ara looked away)

"Going to the mall is not a vacation," (Take a breath for a while)

"Please?"

RIAN

"After my college business in Aussie is over, huh?" (Bargained)

YARANA

"Deal," (Answered Ara, with enthusiasm)

PLACE : HOSPITAL’S ROOM

TIME : PRESENT

AT RISE : ONE ROOM IN THE HOSPITAL, THERE ARE TWO CHAIRS,

WITH ONE WOMAN LYING DOWN THERE

MONOLOGUE

RIAN

Again, Rian is looking at Ara. Yarana Olivia.

The girl he met at elementary school, a short-really fussy girl, who ever
scolded him because he accidentally lost Ara's favorite pen in the first week of
school, then both 7-year-old children argued, which ended in the principal's room,
and given a punishment for always being together for three days. A bad first
impression, but passed beautifully.

If only Ara wasn't too hyperbole with her loss of the hello kitty pen, maybe
they wouldn't be so close now. The three days together, which Rian endured
forcefully, became a habit. The habit of going to school together with a bicycle, the
habit of sitting close together, the habit of going to the canteen together, even doing
homework. Until time has flied so far, as the distance from the first week of
elementary school to the last week of middle school.

Rian grimaces, if only ...

PLACE : SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL – SCHOOL HALL

AT RISE : GRADUATION VIBES

YARANA

"Finally!"

(Ara spread her arms, took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly)]

"The exam weeks turned out to be really hectic. But we have passed it. "

RIAN

"..And graduated,"

( Rian followed Ara, with the items they had brought from home.)

Ah! So cool. The wind blew gently. The waves run regularly. Shady trees.
Warm sand. Quiet pavilion. After fighting with a variety of questions, after not
resting asleep waiting for the graduation announcement, after too busy taking care of
the file, the the beach is the right destination to relax the mind.

YARANA

"Next week we will have a farewell party." (Enthusiastically)

RIAN

(Rian nodded) "Ra ..."

 YARANA

"Yes?"

RIAN

"Actually, I want to say something." (Rian smiled, looked at the Ara’s shady fac) "I
lov.."

YARANA

"Me too,"

RIAN

"Huh?" (Rian was astonished)

"Do you have something to say too?"

YARANA

, "Actually, I already want to say this from a few days ago, just because I see you are
busy so I delay."

RIAN

Could it be that Ara already knew about the feelings that he had been hiding for a
long time? (Rian asked himself, but he dismissed the thought)

"About?"

YARANA

"I'm dating Vano,"

RIAN
 (LIMP)

No.

YARANA

"... it's been a month,"

"Ara.."

RIAN

(Silent)

SOMEONE – VANO

The man is coming.

"I take a long time, huh?" (He smiled)

"Your mother forgot where to park her car, we get around the parking lot up to three
times, then she have just realized that she was delivered by your father." (The man
laughed)

"So I must escort her."

(The man rubbs Ara's forehead)

"You have to get up quickly and be healthy," (He pulls a chair and sit next to Ara.)

"I will always be here," (He gently hold Ara's hand).

"I know you miss Rian."

"We will go there later. Bring lots of flowers."

RIA

(Stricken) Hey, don’t I.."

AT RISE : IN A HURRY SITUATION

MONOLOGUE

YARANA

Damn. Why should it be stuck?

Ara got out of the taxi, walked as fast as possible and cried loudly. It doesn't
matter where she is. It doesn't matter how many eyes see it. She only wanted to cry.
Get out her emotions. Remove everything that makes her chest tight. This is all
impossible. News in television was impossible. She must be dreaming.

About the news of the crash of an Australian flight.

About one of the names of the victims she knew.

About a loss.

About friendship for a long time.

About Barian Santoso.

About Rian.

She must be dreaming.

Ah, why are there so many land vehicles so difficult to cross to the hospital.
He must meet Rian. Rian must be safe. Rian must be just hurt. Rian's family must

"Sorry I have to convey this news, Yarana's brain is bleeding much and caused brain-
infection, brain-inflammation.”

"This severe infection caused damage to the brain and ... Yarana was in a coma,"

"We will try to cure your child quickly and make the best possible hospital care, "

"Ara.."

(Ara circulates her surroundings) That voice ...

YARANA

"Rian?" (Ara looked miserably, then cried)

RIAN

"You have to wake up,"

(Rian hugs Ara)

"Wake up and I will definitely be calm there,"

YARANA

"Ian..”

RIAN

(Rian rubs Ara's head) “Wake up, ra. Fight. For yourself. Don't give up. "

"Hello, ma'am, sir... Ara has regained consciousness,"

RIAN

(Smiles)

During the one year he left, during the one year accident, he must leave now.

Seeing his father and mother who were sincere about his death, Mrs. Rima,
Mr. Gunawan who always patient, and the faithful Vano. That's all enough to prove
everything.

All of this is just his hope to stay beside Ara. To stay with Ara. Although
sometimes he does not realize that he is 'different'.

Although sometimes he still being here. As simple as answering conversations

of those who are accompanying Ara, and hope they all hear. Vano who is talking with
Mr.Rima, not him.

He understands. It turns out that sincerity will bring further calm and
happiness.
