ABSTRACT
This paper describes four single st age CO2 ( R7 4 4 ) vapour compression ref rigerat ion syst ems servicing t wo
medium sized f reezer st ores locat ed in a food processing facilit y sit uat ed in Brisbane, Aust ralia. The
processes which lead t o t he select ion of carbon dioxide as a ref rigerant as well as t he select ion of
condensing medium are det ailed. I n addit ion, t he general plant design concept , plant cont rol, aut omat ic
def rost met hod, pract ical issues relat ing t o t he inst allat ion and pract ical dif f icult ies encount ered during
commissioning are described in det ail. An assessment of t he long t erm reliabilit y of t he R7 4 4 syst ems is
made and f ut ure applicat ions of R7 4 4 as a ref rigerant are discussed.
