The Charity Club was having a meeting on Monday afternoon.

Miss Chan said, ‘We will visit Star Old People’s Home on Saturday.
You can either sing a song or perform a play for the old people. What
do you want to do?’ ‘Neither Jenny nor I can act. Shall we sing a
song?’ said Paul. Three of them could sing so they agreed to sing a
song. Amy was unhappy. She said, ‘I can’t sing. What can I do?’
On Saturday, the children sang a song for the old people. They
enjoyed the song very much. Next, Amy told them some funny jokes.
They laughed happily. Miss Chan said, ‘Well done, Amy.’ Amy was
happy too.

One day, Miss Fong asked Annie, ‘What do you want to be
when you grow up?’ Annie said, ‘I want to be a social worker when I
grow up.’
At recess, Annie’s classmate Janet was crying in the playground.
Annie asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ Janet showed Annie her Maths test
paper. Annie said, ‘Ha! You failed your Maths test. That test was so
easy!’ Janet was unhappy and walked away.
Miss Fong spoke to Annie. She said, ‘Annie, social workers need
to be understanding. They have to listen to others’ problems and
understand their feelings. Please don’t laugh at others again.’
That night Annie said sorry to Janet. From that day on, she
became more caring and understanding.

Chris saw a poster for the drama club at school. He thought, ‘I
want to be an actor when I grow up. If I become an actor, I’ll be very
popular.’ He decided to join the drama club.
One day Miss Chan said, ‘We’ll perform the play The Prince next
month. Chris, you will be the prince.’ Chris was very happy.
Soon the day of the performance came. Chris was very nervous.
He forgot some of his lines!
After the performance, Chris said to the other actors, ‘Sorry that I
did badly. Actors need to study their scripts and learn their lines. I’ll
work harder next time.’

One day, Dad asked Simon, ‘What do you want to be when
you grow up?’ Simon answered, ‘I want to be a teacher when I grow
up. If I become a teacher, I’ll teach Maths.’
That afternoon, Simon’s brother Mike didn’t know how to do his
Maths homework. Simon helped him do the sums but Mike still didn’t
understand. Simon lost patience and shouted at his brother. Simon
said, ‘You’re so stupid!’ Mike started to cry.
Dad spoke to Simon. He said, ‘Simon, teachers need to be
patient with their students. Don’t shout at your brother when he
doesn’t understand. You should teach him patiently.’
That night, Simon said sorry to Mike. He helped Mike with his
Maths homework again. From that day on, Simon became more
patient and understanding.
