ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES

By: Jennifer Niven

DESCRIBE:

All The Bright Places is as American teen romantic drama film, directed by

Brett Haley. It was a young fiction novel by Jennifer Niven which is based on

authors personal story. A film adaptation starring Elle Fanning who played as

Violet and Justice smith who played as Finch. The movie tells a story of

Violet and Finch, a two teens who suffer different challenges in life. Violet and

Finch meet on the top of the bell tower when both are contemplating suicide

and it is unclear who saves who; but they both survive. The movie deals with

themes of loss, guilt, mental illness and family; the two main characters have

dealt with loss in their lives, which strengthens their connection.

ANALYZE:

Cinematographer of the movie, Rob Givens’. He saturated approach

resounds in scenes that unabashedly embrace romantic overtones, basking

the two leads in the warm glow of the golden hour, or the soft low light of their

rainstorm smooch. It also stands strong in sequences where their emotions

become cooler, rougher around the edges and more difficult to define. The

muisc in this movie also very important for this was a special collaboration in
every scene laid the music on, the images and the music came to life and

both worked in a way that seemed like they had never existed without one

another. Much like Violet and Finch, the belonged together and were made

better by having been together. In film editing, Suzy Elmiger’s allow cuts in

movie for the performers to guide the rhythm and flow of the scene which

make a huge impact in the movie.

INTERPRETATION:

I believe that Jennifer Niven wants to tell to the audience that everyone is

going through something, and that everyone deals with their experiences

differently. The movie constantly explores life and death and it shows the

reader just how valid life is, and it comes with an overpowering message of

doing everything before it is too late. It shows that the thought of ‘what could

have been’ can destroy a person.Overall, the movie is a must to watch and

your longing for the characters to pull through keeps you waiting in the next

scene on what to happen next..It is one of those movies that you still

remember months after watching it because the characters and the storyline

they followed touched your heart in a way that you can’t forget them. It is a

movie that you can link back to your own life and it reminds you how fragile

everything is and how important it is to treasure every moment with a loved

one before it can be snatched away.

JUDGE:

This movie made me feel deppressed most of the time I was watching it,

some scenes were so sad that they were difficult to watch.. It's really

heartbreaking, but can also be uplifting and happy at some parts. This movie

also left a huge impact on me. It showed me how a person that you think you

know very well may be suffering and you can't do anything to help them, and

the difference a person can make in your life. All of the bright places that

Violet and Theo visited had impacts on them, even though it was for a school

project. All the Bright Places is portraying not only the bright places on Earth,

but the brightness that they saw in each other, that perhaps other people

could not see.
