Dont Look Now Review The story of a family who loses a daughter through drowning, which causes psychological

trauma for the family, however the father picks up a heavier weight of psychological impact when he starts seeing his dead daughter running around Venice, causes him to question himself and looking for her discovering the truth, leaving his wife scared and looking for answers.

'With fragmented images, pieces of a narrative that resist coherence. Each fleeting glimpse represents only a tiny part of the larger picture' (Leo Goldsmith, 2004) throughout the whole film, representations of his daughter appear, and some quick shots of other such occurrences, to lead the audience in a direction to question the conclusion, the uncanny produces this initial feeling. The audience tries to connect with the characters in the loss of somebody, however with each twist a different aspect of the film is revealed, making people question it further, and becoming unable to give a possible answer until the end The strong use of the colour red to represent the daughter is used throughout the film, such as in Fig.1 the Coat of the daughter is Bright red and unfamiliar, in comparison with the fathers attire of dark green, this use of colour is their to symbolise the daughter, to which in the conclusion throws the audience completely off by any guess they could have imagined.

Automatically the representation of the Painting frame shows sentimental, which would imply by the blood a family member has died, and the look on the faces of the characters within the picture shows anguish, which suggests the film is based upon them and the loss of someone, amongst the blood drippiung down from the bottom of the frame. Which is suitably where the characters hearts would be, resulting in heartfelt feelings and emotions within the film. The confusion within this poster is based upon the setting, with it being dark and unclear, shows the story is a very confusing and mysterious one, however strong plot and character recognition. 'If not for the way that the plot advances while leaving several facts, mostly minor but not always, to be explained later or not at all except by implication' (Tim Brayton, 2008) which relies on the audience to figure out for themselves what is actually happening in the facts that are left behind, however the reason they are untouched, arguably is because they dont have relavence to the story at hand, and the conclusion to which the story leads upon to. Therefore leaving odd little loose ends at a point of aneed to know basis, and further knowledge would corrupt the overall effect the film has on the audience.

Fig.3 Reflection in the water 'The identity of the figure in red isn't important, or the point; the film wisely sticks with John's point-of-view in these lingeringly stark and beautiful last moments. It is his journey to take.' (Dustin Putman, 2008) This quote is true, yet the identity isnt important however the colour is representing death and love and visual semiotics to which are all relevant, however the story of his journey is emotional, and painful and everything the colour red represents therefore being a key aspect. A wonderful story told in a most parculiar way involving the uncanny, and the unknown however overal presenting an emotion psychological journey of one man in the loss of his daughter.
