HOLTER

BY: KAREN DANIELA BAUTISTA ESQUIVIA

What is a Holter?
A Holter monitor is a small,
wearable device that records your
heart rate. It is used to detect or
determine the risk of irregular
heartbeats (arrhythmias) for a
period of 24 hours to 48 hours
during the patient's usual activity.

How it is performed?
The monitor has between 7 and 10 cables
called "leads." The leads are connected to
electrodes, which are placed on the chest,
these are connected to a Holter the size of
a mobile phone which records the
electrical activity of the heart. The
electrodes are very sensitive and can
capture electrical impulses from the heart.

When it is indicated to
place a 24-hour Holter
It is mainly used in the study of:

Arrhythmias
Myocardial ischemia and extrasystoles
An ST segment heart rhythm analysis
can also be performed to detect
clogged heart arteries.
