MONITOR HOLTER

It is a machine that records heart rhythms

continuously. It is worn for 24 to 48 hours
during normal activity.

The electrodes (small conductive patches)

are attached to the chest. They are
connected by wires to a small recording
monitor. You carry the Holter monitor in a
pocket or in a bag that is worn around the
neck or waist. The monitor is battery
operated.

HOW IS THIS ACTIVITY DONE?

While you wear the monitor, it records the electrical activity of your heart.

 Keep a daily record of the activities you do while you are wearing the monitor and
how you feel.
 After 24 to 48 hours, you should return the monitor to your healthcare provider's
office.
 The provider will look at the records and see if there have been any abnormal
heart rhythms.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
The electrodes must be firmly attached to the chest for the machine to obtain an accurate
record of heart activity.
While using the device, AVOID:

 electric sheets
 high voltage areas
 magnets
 Metal detectors

¿WHY IS THIS TEST PERFORMED?

The Holter monitor is used to determine how the heart responds to normal activity. The
monitor can also be used:
After a heart attack
To diagnose heart rhythm problems that may be causing symptoms such as palpitations or
syncope
It can also be used to diagnose:

 Atrial fibrilloflutter
 Multifocal atrial tachycardia
 Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia
 Slow heart rate (bradycardia)
 Ventricular tachycardia
