environment ,by societal traditions by cultural , ethnic , religious, groups and
by family and peer groups which influences the way a person behaves with

aviors related to values.
* Values influence our behavior because we use them to
decide between alternatives.
* They form the basis of how we see ourselves as individuals, how we
see others, and how we interpret the world in general.
* Values guide behavior. They are highly relevant to establishing our
individuality and helping explain our actions.
For example, a person who values health is more likely to develop daily
rituals and long-term habits that enhance health and general well-
being than people who do not.

identifying values.
Traditions are the source of human behavior. Human being raised in a certain
culture is taught some rules that keep the social order and direct people’s
thoughts and actions. These rules are cultural values. cultural values are
established points of view on what is desired and valuable in a certain society.
As we grow older our family , society , culture imposes certain rules on us that
we have to follow to remain happy and satisfied in society
Culture defines situation:
Culture conditions and determines what we eat, and drink what we wear,
where to laugh , weep, sleep to make friends with, what work we do, what to
worship , how we provide care etc.
‘Scanned with ComScannerCulture is the treasury of knowledge:
Culture provides knowledge which is important for the physical, social and
intellectual existence of man. Culture preserves knowledge and helps its
transmission from generation to generation through its element that is
language.
* Culture provides behavior patterns :
Culture assigns goals and provides means for achieving them. It rewards his
noble ones and punishes the immoral ones.
Culture not only controls but also liberates human, energy and activities.
‘Scanned with ComScannerValues are ideas about what is “right” and what is “wrong” They are
standards that people use to decide what is desirable, good, and beautiful and
that serve as broad guidelines for social living.
Values differs from society to society as every social order chooses what to be
valued and what not.
E.g. our value system gives more importance to religion, concern for others
etc. while in western world success, achievements are given more importance
