Pursuit of Excellence

New Classes Begin

As you know, all students take semester length classes in Physical Education and Design. When the new semester begins on
January 22nd , students will be switching classes to their new semester course. Those students who were enrolled in Design will now
have a semester course in Physical Education, and those enrolled in Physical Education will now have a semester of Design.
Remember that both courses require fees. Physical Education requires a P.E. uniform that includes shorts- $12.00 and shirts
$12.00, cash with PE teacher or you can buy them at the PTSA store online. It is strongly recommended that the
Physical Education students purchase 2 uniforms ($24.00). PE uniforms can be purchased by students directly from the PE
teachers. Design requires a $4 fee. Fees will be collected Jan 22nd to Jan 29th through OSP.

FEE COLLECTION WEEK -Steps to follow through OSP

1. Click on MDCPS Parent Portal 4. Click on your child’s school level
2. Click on Apps/Services/Sites 5. Click on the name of your child’s school.
3. Click on OSP parent Link (This will display the activities available to purchase)

Immunization and Registration Issues

All sixth graders need to start their 7 grade immunization process now. Avoid problems with registration, subject selection, and
th

exclusion from school. Take care of required immunizations as soon as possible. All future seventh graders need their TDAP Booster so
please bring in your immunization Form 680 as soon as possible. Do not wait until the end of the school year.

Magnet Program Academic Reminder

As a reminder, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA in all classes and in conduct to remain in good standing at Ammons. Any student who
earns one or more “D” or “F” during any 9-week period, in any course, will be placed on academic probation. Failure to meet the
probationary requirements outlined in the probation document places the student in danger of being exited from the Magnet program at
Ammons and returned to his/her home school for the coming school year. Please review your child’s performance by checking the
portal. Grade level counselors meet with students to discuss strategies and to provide support on a regular basis.

End of the Year Fieldtrip Requirements

Students MUST have no lower than a C2B in all classes to remain eligible for all end of year trips. Grades will be checked for the 1 st
and 2nd 9 weeks before students pay; however, if students’ grades drop below the required minimum for the 3 rd 9-weeks he or she will
be removed and NO REFUNDS will be available. In addition, any student receiving an administrative referral, administrative
detention, or suspension will not be permitted to participate in the activity – and will forfeit any money paid for the activity and/or
field trip.

Articulation/Subject Selection
In February, we will be starting subject selection for next school year. Current 6 and 7 graders will be selecting courses for next year
th th

and current 8 graders will choose their Senior High courses, so get ready. More information will be forthcoming .
