There’s no better home than this world.

Do so and you’ll make it smile,

And we will smile along.

Sometimes some people aren’t so good.

They don’t do the things they know they should. We love animals, flowers and people,

They cut down forests and blacken seas. From the huge elephant to the tiny beetle.

Text 6 – KIWI BIRDS: STORY

(One evening, Alex, Mum and Dad are driving down
a road and they see a dog carrying something in his
mouth.)
Alex: Mum! Stop the car. Can you see the dog?
Mum: It’s got something in its mouth!
Dad: It looks like an animal.
Alex: Let’s get out of the car.
(They get out and call the dog.)
Alex: Doggie, doggie. Come here.
(The dog comes and...)
Alex: What have you got in your mouth? Poor little
thing. You’ve got a bird! Let go! Let go!
Mum: Wow! It’s a kiwi bird.
Dad: Is it dead or alive?
Mum: It’s still alive! Let’s take him to a kiwi hospital!
Alex: Off we go!

Text 7
Mum: Alex, can you tell me some differences
between an emu and a kiwi bird?
Alex: Emus are bigger, much bigger, and they’ve got
longer legs.
Mum: What about their beaks?
Alex: A kiwi bird’s beak is longer than an emu’s.
Mum: What about their eggs?
Alex: An emu’s egg is as big as a kiwi bird’s egg, but
the colour is different. A kiwi bird’s egg is beige and
an emu’s egg is green.
Mum: Very good Alex! Now what is similar?
Alex: They both have small wings which means they
can’t fly. They can both run very fast. They have both
got three-toed feet with claws.
Mum: You do know a lot!
Keep listening!
