Process essay

The process I’m going to describe is Hosting, more specifically on the game engine

“Byond.” Byond is a relatively easy to use gaming/hosting engine that can be found here,

http://byond.com. It is used to make aerial or top-down 2d 8 bit games. Such games as card
games, shooters, and RPG's are commonly found on Byond as they are easiest to make and quite

popular.

Byond games can be hosted on dream seeker, dream daemon (the most stable way), or the

least common/stable through the main Byond client itself. I would recommend using dream

seeker for beginners and dream daemon once you have a port forwarded. Dream Daemon can be

found on the Start menu under BYOND. Click Start, then Programs (or All Programs on

Windows XP), then BYOND, and finally Dream Daemon. Alternatively, you can run

dreamdaemon.exe in the "bin" folder inside the location on your hard drive where you installed

BYOND. After opening there is no game loaded yet, we need to locate the games .DMB file in

order to host it. Click file then open or hit ctrl+O. If you downloaded the host files in the

standard way of going to the games page then downloading them, then they will be wherever you

had placed them. When you open the folder that you downloaded you will want to double-click

or click the .DMB file then click open. Almost done but you may wish to configure some of

these options, namely the “Port” option should you not have “UPnP” or(Universal plugin

Play)on your computer. It tells your computer where to send and receive data from. The Security

is how much you trust the above mentioned .DMB files to have read write access in its own

directory. The visibility is “who” can see your game, public is everyone; private is only those on
your friends list and invisible is no one can see your game.

When you wish to stop hosting the game the process to do that couldn’t be simpler. To

close you can either click the red stop which has replaced the green “go” in the bottom right

corner then close it, or go to file, then click exit. This will Close all connections and stop the

server all in one go.
