Understanding Transactional Analysis

Transactional analysis was developed by Dr. Eric Berne to study social interactions and improve communication. It examines exchanges between people known as transactions, which can be verbal or nonverbal. People operate from three ego states - parent, adult, and child. Transactions are classified as complementary, crossed, or ulterior depending on if the response fits the stimulus or conveys a hidden message. Understanding transactions and ego states provides insight into relationships and can benefit communication, motivation, and organizational development.
