Chapter 5

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary of the findings gathered in this

investigation, conclusions and recommendations.

Summary

1. What is the most effective method of purifying wastewater based on pH level?

- The most effective method of purifying wastewater based on pH level is water

treatment; it is the fastest procedure among the three methods. Indicating a pH

level averaging 6.97 and classified as neutral and safe.

2. How long does each method of purifying wastewater take?

-The three methods each have a size of 100 ml, and there are 15 trials for each.

In the filtering, or the slowest procedure, there is an average time of 13.53

minutes in each trial, with a total of 203 minutes. Distillation has an average of

20.35 minutes in each trial, with a sum of 305 minutes. The last method is water

treatment, which is the fastest among the three, with an average of 0.22 minutes

per trial and a total of 3.25 minutes across all tries.

3. Is there a significant difference between the pH levels of the three methods of

purifying wastewater?

- There is a significant difference between the pH levels of the three methods of

purifying wastewater. This conclusion is supported by the F-statistic of 45.8336

with 2 degrees of freedom and a p-value of 0 in Table 2, indicating a rejection of

the null hypothesis.

Salient Findings

Research Questions:

1. What is the most effective method of purifying wastewater based on pH

level?

The examination of pH levels reveals significant variations between the three

purification techniques, as shown in Table 1.1. In contrast, both the "Filtering" and

"Distillation" procedures produce slightly acidic pH levels (4.63 and 4.87,

respectively), with the added remark of "Slightly Acidic and Low Safety." "Water

Treatment" proves to be the most effective, attaining a neutral pH level of 6.97,

categorized as "Neutral and Safe."

2. How long does each method of purifying wastewater take?

Table 1.2 gives information on how long each purifying process takes. At a mere

0.22 minutes every 100 milliliters of water, "Water Treatment" is noticeably

quicker. However, the average times for the "Filtering" and "Distillation" processes

are much slower—13.53 minutes for 100 milliliters and 20.35 minutes for 100

milliliters, respectively.

3. Is there a significant difference between the pH levels of the three

methods of purifying wastewater?

6
Table 2 shows that the pH values of the three purification techniques varied

significantly from one another. Given the p-value of 0 and the F-statistic of

45.8336, it is unlikely that the observed fluctuations in pH levels are the result of

chance. This demonstrates that the pH levels of the various approaches vary

methodically.

Additional Insights:

Safety and Efficiency Trade-off:

The "Water Treatment" approach is the quickest and produces the most neutral

pH. This implies that there may be a trade-off between the various approaches'

efficacy (treatment time) and safety (pH level).

Practical Considerations:

The "Water Treatment" approach is a viable option for wastewater purification as it

is notable for being both efficient and effective. Practical use, however, should

take into account variables like cost and scalability in addition to pH levels.

Limitations:

While pH levels and treatment times are covered in the study, other criteria might

be investigated in future studies to offer a more thorough assessment of

wastewater purification techniques.

Conclusions

The following conclusions were formulated based on the findings obtained:

7
1. The three different water treatment methods were compared and

contrasted in this study with an emphasis on time and pH levels

produced. The results showed that, of the techniques tested (distillery,

filtration, and water treatment), the latter proved to be the most time-

effective in achieving the intended pH levels. Although distillation and

filtering were less effective in terms of pH results, they still required

sufficient time commitments. All things considered, the thorough

investigation indicates that water treatment is the best method out of the

three, providing a good mix between quick results and alkaline pH

levels. Consequently, it was shown to be the best method for gathering

samples during the trial, proving that water treatment was the most

efficient method.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of the study, the following are hereby recommended:

Palanwan Nation School (PNS), Department of Education (DepEd), People of

Puerto Princesa City (PPC) and Water District and for the future

researcher's.

1. In Palawan National School (PNS), integrating practical wastewater treatment

experiments into the curriculum fosters hands-on learning and promotes

environmental responsibility, with a focus on regular seminars, student-led

initiatives, and emphasizing eco-friendly practices for enhanced STEM education.

8
2. For the Department of Education (DepEd), the recommendation involves

integrating wastewater treatment insights into the science curriculum, developing

focused modules, encouraging eco-friendly practices, and promoting awareness

through educational campaigns. This ensures that DepEd plays a pivotal role in

shaping environmentally conscious students for a sustainable future.

3. For the residents of Puerto Princesa City, initiating a comprehensive

wastewater management study holds manifold advantages. Not only does it

protect the environment by preventing pollution and conserving biodiversity, but it

also safeguards public health by diminishing waterborne diseases. The study

stands to benefit numerous individuals, particularly in areas grappling with water

issues, as it substantially reduces wastewater. Through the promotion of efficient

wastewater treatment and reuse practices, these efforts ultimately elevate living

conditions, mitigate health risks, and contribute to the overall well-being of the

community in Puerto Princesa City.

4. In the context of the Puerto Princesa City Water District, a strong

recommendation is made to adopt the identified effective water treatment method

customized for the city's wastewater. Initiating a pilot project with rigorous

monitoring, collaboration with experts and stakeholders, safety protocols, and

public awareness campaigns is advised, contributing to successful

implementation and solidifying wastewater treatment capabilities for a cleaner

water supply.

9
5. Based on the findings presented in this study, it is suggested that future

researchers delve into this specific field to improve outcomes in subsequent

studies. The study recommends the adoption of water treatment methods, citing

their convenience and efficiency in terms of both results and time consumption

during experimentation. While water distillation is noted for its budget-friendly

nature, it is acknowledged as less effective than water treatment, especially in

handling samples, particularly in the context of industrial wastewater. Beyond the

effective utilization of industrial wastewater, the study aims to promote its

preservation and responsible use. Future researchers are encouraged to apply

the methodologies used in the earlier experimental phases of this study for

continuity and comparability.
