When reading non-fiction or fiction text, sometimes there are clues that a cause and effect
relationship is being presented. The clues come in the form of words. These words transition the
reader from a cause to an effect. The most common cause and effect transitions are: since, so,
because, thus, if…then, consequently, as a result, therefore, due to…
