Marksmanship- Is the skillful art of shooting and hitting the target at a given range or known distance.

 Marksmanship Training:

1. Purposes of Marksmanship Training

 To develop the ability to shoot quickly and accurately.

 To obtain proficiency in the use of any type of firearm for self-defense.

2. Importance of Marksmanship Training

1. Marksmanship training is important because a law enforcement officer that cannot shoot
correctly and accurately becomes liability rather than an asset in a police department.

2. It is important because a firearm becomes a dangerous weapon in the hands of ignorant,


careless and untrained law enforcement officers.

3. It is important because the defense of the person and his rights often times depend on the
effectiveness of a law enforcement officer with his service firearms.

4. Marksmanship is generally divided into three phases:

a.) Preparatory Training;

b.) Mechanical Training; and

c.) Range Practice

5. Marksmanship training is necessary because it enhances law enforcement morale and gets the
respect of the citizenship for the law enforcement.

Shooting Basics

Stance

-The excellence of the stance is a major factor in creating conditions for maximum control.

Control

Arms

Posture

Alignment

Natural Point aim

Stance width

Trigger Control

Guidelines for Proper Trigger Control:

The trigger is where it falls naturally on the trigger.

Slack or free play in the trigger is taken up first.

Apply pressure with the trigger finger only.

Trigger finger must be in an arched position to avoid contact with the side of the pistol.

Errors in Trigger Control:

Flinching – muscular tension or reaction in anticipation of the recoil. It id cause by moving the head,
closing the eyes, moving the shoulder to the real or combination.

Jerking- an attempt to make the pistol fire at a certain instant by rapidly applying pressure on the
trigger.

Causes of Bad Shots and Positive Correction:


Not focusing on front sight

Holding too long

Improper grip or position

Jerk or heel

Anticipation

Loss of concentration

Anxiety

Vacillation

Lack of follow-Trough
