TEST DATA SHEET

Project Name: 3M 3930 HIP Retroreflective Sheeting (Type III/IV)

6.2 Coefficient of Retroreflection

Requirement: ASTM D4956 Tables 4 & 5 (Types III & IV Sheeting)

Test Method: ASTM E810 - Test Distance 100 feet (30.5 m)
Entrance angle = β1. β2 = 0. Observation Angle = α
Projector: Hoffman GPS-102 (Illuminant A, 1.0 fc, 30" diameter)
Sample Area: 8.0 in. x 8.0 in, 0.444 ft² (203 mm x 203 mm, 0.0412 m²)

Coefficient of Retroreflection (RA) determined by measuring three (3)

8"x8" samples mounted on 0.040" thick 6061-T6 aluminum panels at two
rotation angles (ε=0° and ε=90°) and averaging. Sheeting has no datum
mark to indicate ε=0°. ε=0° arbitrarily defined as orientation with
sheeting diamonds' long axes parallel to projector/detector half-plane
(see photos).

Tested in accordance to ASTM E810 10.7.1 - since no rotation angle is

specified the average of the two orientations (ε=0° and ε=90°) is required
to meet minimum requirements.

3M states sampling performed in accordance with D4956 Section 9.1.

Samples taken from submitted specimens labeled 1, 5, 9 by 3M.

Units: Candela per footcandle per square foot (Candela per Lux per square meter)

Samples mounted on 0.040" thick 3" x 9" aluminum panels and weathered for
the specified time in Desert and Tropical climates. Samples were washed
in a mild detergent solution and dried after exposure. Unexposed areas at
the top and bottom of each panel were masked leaving a 3" x 6" exposed
area for testing. Coefficient of Retroreflection (RA) measured as per 6.2.

6.7 Flexibility

Requirement: ASTM D4956 6.7

Test Method: ASTM D4956 7.9

2¾" x 11" samples prepared by removing protective liner and liberally

applying talc on adhesive side. Samples then bent around ⅛" diameter

the mandrel with adhesive side contacting mandrel, then pulling long ends
downward and together within 1 second until material had a 180° bend at
its center. Samples tested in three (3) orientations - 0°, 45°, and 90°
as defined for coefficient of retroreflection.

S1. Fungus Resistance

Requirement: ASTM D4956 S1.3.11

Test Method: ASTM D4956 S1

Only the 3930 White was tested for Fungus Resistance.

Three (3) 3" x 3" samples of sheeting mounted to 0.020" thick aluminum
substrate were placed firmly on the specified agar medium and exposed to
Aspergillus niger inoculum (AATCC Number 6275) for 14 days incubation
period. Upon completion of incubation period, samples visibly examined
for fungus growth then wiped with a 70% ethanol solution. Cleaned samples
then visually examined for pitting and textured surface.

Sample Results
3930 White No fungal growth, surface texturing, or pitting.

Sample meets Fungus Resistance requirements.
