Example:-

Calculate operating frequency & Feedback fraction for the

circuit shown in figure, The Mutual inductance between coils
is 20μH
SOLUTION:

L1=1000μH, L2=100μH , M=20μH

C=20pF
Then total inductance calculated as
L=L1+L2+2M
1.Operating frequency is
F=1/2π sqrt(L*C)
f=1052KHz
2.Feedback Fraction
L2/L1=100μH/1000μH=0.1
PHASE SHIFT OSCILLATOR

In LC oscillator tank circuit is employed by

inductive and capacitive elements produces a 180o
phase shift & further phase shift i.e. 180o obtained
by transistor configuration

LC oscillator have two Drawbacks

1.They suffer from frequency stability and poor

waveform
2.They can’t be used for low frequencies because
they become two much bulky and expensive
Good frequency stability and waveform can be
obtained from oscillators employing resistive and
capacitive elements

Such Oscillators are RC oscillator or phase shift

oscillator

They can be used for low frequencies

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM OF PHASE SHIFT
OSCILLATOR
Vcc
It Consists of conventional single transistor and RC
Phase shift network

The phase shift consist of three RC circuit as shown in

fig

The Phase Shift in each RC section is 60o so that the

total phase shift produced by RC network is 180o
The frequency of oscillation can be calculated as
ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES

ADVANTAGES
1. It does not require Transformer or inductor
2. It can be used to produce low frequencies
3. The circuit provides good frequency stability

DISADVANTAGES
1. It is difficult for the circuit to start oscillations as
the feedback is generally small
2. The circuit gives small output
