Includes following info:

•PDDB default values and descriptions
•GMC (RL30) default values
•Upgrade rules (RL20->RL30)

PKDB contains parameter optimization scenarios!
• For example: start by looking up the parameter definition  PKDB: parameter
knowledge database.

• “Extended info” gives a link to additional information, in this case, a document by

Network Engineering describing the basics of PRACH planning and configuration.

Useful links for site database creation
• NPO CM folder in IMS:
https://sharenet-ims.inside.nokiasiemensnetworks.com/Open/433416226

• For parameter delta document between two releases, see NOLS

https://online.portal.nokiasiemensnetworks.com/pic/gateway/finder
PIC search key word: “RL20 changes” or “RL30 changes”

• Latest official Site Manager software from NOLS Care Software Supply Tool.
https://online.portal.nokiasiemensnetworks.com/SWD/
Note: requires access rights to SW folder

• R&D versions of the Site Manager from the WorkFlow Tool, link:
https://nxnwft.ul.emea.nsn-intra.net/download
• Select desired software version  Download  Build Tools.
• NOTE: these are R&D versions of the software, Company Confidential!!
• useful if you are working on pre-P8 BTS sw for which site manager not officially
available yet

Downloading latest official site manager from
NOLS Care/Software Delivery
• Select “Flexi Multiradio BTS LTE”, and in the following screen a section called
“Software Files” should be visible if access rights are sufficient. Otherwise only a
“Document Files” section heading is seen. There is no specific warning of
insufficient access rights.

Downloading latest unofficial site manager from
Workflow Tool (ONLY FOR TRIALS, CHECK NOLS
FIRST!) • Select release that matches your BTS sw

R&D versions!! use only if no

suitable SW available in NOLS!!

Parameter Handling
Parameter values (Golden SCF vs. PDDB)
• Most default parameter values in PDDB should be aligned with Golden SCF
values after P8 milestone
• Reasons why parameter values can be different:
• SCF is focused on lab testing, low loaded trials and customer networks whereas PDDB
values should be more generic. E.g. cell load dependent parameters

• Other parameter values in SCF are the result of a workaround for some issue (network or
UE) that may be removed in future release/SW-version

• All cases of differences between PDDB default values and Golden SCF should be
documented in the corresponding GMC scenario within the Parameter Knowledge
Database (PKDB):

Mass modification of one or more parameters in
CM Editor using policy-based compare
• Prerequisite: MO templates should have been assigned to MOs to modify
1. Workflow Engine  Policy-Based Compare
2.Copy-Paste objects to modify to MO(s) window
3.Run policy-based compare and give name to delta plan

Mass modification of one or more parameters in
Plan Editor
• Steps:
1. Import existing site db to PE
2. Query the parameter(s) to change
3. Mass modify parameter value(s)
4. Export delta plan

Company Confidential
13 © Nokia Siemens Networks Presentation / Author / Date
Example: Mass modification of one or more
parameters in PE
• Step 1: import existing site db to PE, ie
importing actual data from OSS
– When importing a commissioning file, use import
profile of your BTS release
▪ Example: „Default LNBTS LN1.0“
– When importing full site db from OSS, use import
profile of your OSS release
▪ Example: „Default OSS5.3CD3“
– Select input XML file
– Click „Import“

Example: Mass modification of one or more
parameters in PE
• Step 2: Query the parameters to change
– Select „Query & Mass Modifications…“
– Select the table that contains the parameter you want to modify.
– Example: NTP server address needs to be changed for all eNBs in the db  select
LTE INTP list table

Company Confidential
15 © Nokia Siemens Networks Presentation / Author / Date
Example: Mass modification of one or more
parameters in PE
• Step 2: Query the parameters to change (cont‘d)
– Example: want to change all NTP addresses 147.243.1.54 to 10.100.100.100
– Query in NTP address table using the parameter name as shown below. NOTE: field
name can dragged to the query field, no need to check it from PDDB. IP@ is in
quotation marks, since ntpServers data type is string

Company Confidential
16 © Nokia Siemens Networks Presentation / Author / Date
Example: Mass modification of one or more
parameters in PE
• Step 3: Mass modify the parameter value
– Change parameter to 10.100.100.100 by typing the new parameter value to one field
– Drag the field over the column title and drop it there
– Select „Save…“ and „Update“ if changes were succesful
– Remove the query field and click the Query to refresh

Company Confidential
17 © Nokia Siemens Networks Presentation / Author / Date
Example: Mass modification of one or more
parameters in PE
• Step 4: Export delta plan to XML
– The previous imported data was imported to the active plan
– Select „Export Plans…“
– Check that export profile matches your OSS version (e.g. OSS 5.3 CD3)
– Move to Export Buffer, then View Export Buffer, may need Refresh
– If all is ok, give output file name and Export!

Global parameter change experiences
Problems faced in Telia Denmark

• When trying to do global parameter changes, the plan

provisioning failed for many sites (more than half of the sites).
This was a critical problem since the number of sites was
more than 800 and manual changes were not feasible. The
back-up solution was to make new SCF files and
recommission all sites.
• Several problems were identified – both with iOMS and
eNodeB SW.
• A cleanup of the database in the iOMS helped for some of the
cases.
• For the eNodeB SW, there were several root causes. Detailed
analysis showed that most of the faults were known and
corrected in EP3.3 and EP3.4.

Global parameter change experiences
Problem faced in Telia Denmark – ”hanging” sites

• Definition of ”hanging” site: Site stops answering to

management commands. The site needs a
recommissioning/restart in order to start working normally
again.
• Restart of LTE1800 sites was difficult because of multiradio
 restarting LTE1800 will also restart GSM1800.
• Most of the problems related to ”hanging” sites was fixed in
RL20 PCD3.4.

Policy-based configuration audit

Comparing actual parameter values against defined MO templates.

Policy-based configuration audit can be divided into 3 main parts:

1. Creating and assigning Policy Templates
2. Defining Policy Audit Properties
3. Running Policy Audit, analyzing its results, and correcting identified
policy violations

Lessons learned: configuration audit – exemplary
mistakes found in practice.

Cells labeled by
rootSeqIndex. What
seems to be
„copy/paste“ errors
have been found.
Most likely this has
happened for sites
that have been
integrated late
compared to the rest
of the newtwork.

Somewhat less
obvious: insufficient
separation

RL20RL30 sw upgrade

• In BTS sw upgrade, existing parameters are automatically

updated in eNodeB database.
• New RL30 parameters are given default value, defined in
PDDB
• To run mass changes easiest is to use CM Editor MO
templates
– Create one site with desired parameter set
– Create MO template from the site for MOs that need updating, only
parameters that need updating are required (leave rest empty)
– LNBTS and LNCEL MO templates usually enough
• If CM Editor not available, use Plan Editor

RL20RL30 sw upgrade, cell priority

• Equal values of cellReselectionPriority for many RATs could

cause malfunction of cell reselection procedure on UE side
• This will be checked and prevented starting from RL30
onwards, but is not checked in RL20.
• Check and correct your database settings already in RL20
prior to upgrade to RL30 to avoid error messages during
upgrade.
• See Technical Support Note TS-LTE_BTS_FDD-SW-0012
”Recommendation for Cell Reselection Parameters setting”,
found in NOLS
