Course Highlights : The Bombay Orthopaedic society “Advanced Operative Paediatric Orthopaedic
course” is one of the foremost teaching programs for Paediatric Orthopaedics,
with delegates coming in from all over the country and abroad. This year, we
aim to continue our tradition of providing an in-depth understanding of all
aspects of Paediatric and Adolescent hip surgeries by a combination of didactic
lectures, Case discussions, pre-operative planning sessions and most
importantly operative demonstrations. Operative demonstrations would include
10-15 surgeries which will be divided into themes for every day for better
understanding and discussions.
Proposed surgeries to be shown:
1) DDH - management in all ages from infancy to adolescence
2) Perthes disease - All aspects of surgical management from basic Femoral
and pelvic osteotomies to intra-articular procedures
3) SCFE
4) Septic hip sequelae / coxa vara and other hip conditions
5) Hip issues in cerebral palsy
The delegates will be able to observe the surgeries in the theatre as well as in
the doctors’ lounge as a live relay and also in some locations, can scrub in.
There will be in-depth case presentations and discussions about every case
pre-operatively. The resource material for the course will be a literature guide for
many of the modern as well as classic articles in paediatric hip surgeries which
will be given to every delegate.
Format and Pattern : The course will be a combination of operative live demonstrations of various
paediatric and adolescent hip surgeries along with didactic lectures about the
basic concepts of hip osteotomies and interactive case discussions.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Selection criteria for instructional courses:
• Completed application form with payment in full.
• Attendance certificate of a basic course in the speciality is a must for advanced courses.
• Separate forms or photocopy for each course if applying for multiple courses physically. Online applications
for each course has to be applied for and paid for separately.
• BOS life members will be given first preference.
• Post-graduate qualification, present work & experience.
• Registration & Degree Certificate is mandatory.
• Attendance of previous BOS courses.
• Publications, presentations and conferences attended.
A facility to make payment online to BOS by credit card has been created. Details will be available on the BOS
website. A non-refundable surcharge for this use will be applicable and this will be indicated at the time of
billing.

COURSE REFUNDS DISCLAIMER
It needs to be noted that any course of the BOS may be cancelled or postponed or its program may be altered /
modified depending upon the situation prevalent in the country in view of the COVID-19 infection, rules and
regulations by the Central Government, State Government, Municipal Corporations of the cities in which the
courses are held and the institutes in which the courses are conducted. The Bombay Orthopaedic Society will
try and intimate the course delegates in advance in such circumstances. However, it may not be possible for the
BOS to intimate or inform the delegates in reasonable time, in case the courses need to be cancelled at a
shorter notice. In such a case, the rules of course fees refund will apply. The BOS or its Executive Council
cannot be held liable and responsible for any financial losses, which may result due to course cancellation
including travel expenses, residential and logistical expenses. Such Expenses shall not be reimbursed to the
delegates.
COURSE CERTIFICATES
Delegates will be provided with E-Certificates for courses conducted by Bombay Orthopaedic Society. The
certificates can be downloaded from BOS Website (www.bombayorth.in) Each delegate will be provided with a
unique username and password. Once logged in, delegates will be able to see a list of all the courses they
attended. Option to download E-Certificates will be activated ONLY after submitting the feedback for respective
courses.
NOTE
• All events conducted by BOS are subject to availability of faculty and adequate number of delegates.
• The organizers may change the dates, venue and faculty or may cancel the course in the unforeseen
circumstances.
• All events organised by BOS including Courses, Clinical Meetings, Master Series, Conferences including
WIROC, are scientific deliberations for registered Orthopaedic delegates only, besides special invitees of
the Executive Council.
• All scientific deliberations are not open to non-orthopaedic surgeons.

In continuing further, the teachings of the Late. Dr. J. C. Taraporvala,
Post-Graduate students pursuing their MS, DNB, D.Ortho and FCPS exams will
get practical knowledge of case presentation, discussion and logical conclusion
on their case.

AWARDS & PUBLICATIONS
BOS BOOK AWARD & BEST TREATISE AWARD
Bombay Orthopaedic Society wishes to encourage academic book writing by Indian Orthopaedic Surgeons. To
this end, it desires to present an award of Rs. 25,000/- (Twenty Five Thousand Only) to Indian Orthopaedic
Surgeons, who have submitted a book on certain aspects of orthopaedics or related subjects published after
2020. The details of such a book can be brought to the Society's notice by any orthopaedic surgeon or by the
publisher of the book. The nominations should be made on the personal letterhead giving reasons for such
recommendations. A photocopy of the copyright page that shows the history of the Publication like name and
address of the publisher, ISBN, etc. of the book should be attached. The BOS Executive Council will refer the
applications to a team of experts who will choose an author to whom the award will be bestowed upon. The
BOS reserves its rights not to give any prize or split it in two or more shares, as it may feel proper. No
correspondence will be entertained about this decision. Three copies of the book should be submitted to the
Secretariat. If the book is very expensive, electronic copies may be submitted. The books will not be returned
after its scrutiny for award. The publication must be in PUBMED peer-reviewed journals bearing ISSN number.
Similarly, chapters written in books bearing ISBN number will be recognised. The author should apply to the
Secretariat, in an online format. Last date: August 31, 2022
An award of Rs. 10,000/- (Indian Rupees Ten Thousand) for a Life Member of the BOS who has done
Extensive Original Research and prepared a Treatise on a Project related to Orthopaedics, that contributes
significantly, through its conclusions, to the practice of Orthopaedics today. Three copies of the treatise
including legends, pictures and references should be submitted. The BOS Executive Council reserve its right to
give, split or withhold this award based on the applications received. The copies have to be received by August
31, 2022 and may not be returned after scrutiny for the award. Researcher must have done and documented
the named research for over 5 years atleast. This does not include P.G. thesis.
RESEARCH COMMITTEE
Bombay Orthopaedic Society desires to promote clinical and basic research in orthopaedics; to this effect,
Society wishes to extend monetary support. The Society invites orthopaedic surgeons working in India to
approach with research projects. Projects approved by IRB / Institutional Ethics Committee will be preferentially
considered for grants. After vetting, the Society will support the effort. Communications may be directed to
Hon. Secretary at the Society's office. Projects will be screened and evaluated by our Research Committee and
experts and considered for funding. Please submit the project in the prescribed format only available as online
on www.bombayorth.in IRB clearance is mandatory before submission. Projects can be submitted round the
year.

RECOGNITION OF PUBLICATIONS
BOS in its initiative to encourage academic activities will recognise publications by its members during WIROC
every year
• The author must be a life member of BOS
• Publication must be in peer-reviewed journals being ISSN number
• Similarly, chapters written in books bearing ISBN number will be recognised
• Application process will be online. For more details, visit www.bombayorth.in (The Secretariat may ask for 3
copies of the publication at a later stage)
• All publications will be reviewed by a committee of experts
• Only articles published / accepted between June 1, 2021 & May 31, 2022 will only be considered for this
year's recognition

Rapid developments in all the subspecialties of orthopaedics means an explosion of knowledge. In our constant
quest to keep up with it, we would invite and encourage the members of our society to submit their work through
the manuscripts and papers to our Peer Reviewed Journal. We understand that the challenges in the
subcontinent are different and so are the demands of our patients. Hence, we at the BOS wish to make this as
a platform for our members and other orthopaedic surgeons to find solutions for problems that they can identify
with, literature that speaks their language and knowledge that is relevant to practise in the subcontinent. There
will be a multitude of reasons to publish and a basic motive is to share knowledge with colleagues. We invite

BOS WEBSITE
The BOS website was updated last year and we have made it more user friendly. All the online educational
activities are available on the website and have been categorized into different sections for easy navigability.
Since the pandemic affected our ability to conduct physical meetings regularly, all the online meetings were
recorded. They can be assessed via both the website and our youtube channel. The viewership to our youtube
channel has grown and now we have 3000+ subscribers. The website will continue to update its members of
the society's activities and publish reports and updates as it has done in the past. In addition, now the digital
versions of all the quarterly Cadence newsletters released till date are available on the website. The BOS also
intends to publish a recordings of all WIROC orations online on the website. We will continue to strive for
providing high quality web based educational content for members.

As the Bombay Orthopaedic Society enters, yet another academic year, we present ‘Cadence’, the BOS
newsletter in a renewed format, but with the same zeal and fervour. Cadence is a theme-based quarterly
electronic tabloid, published with the objective of whipping up the non-academic facets of an academic
institution while continuing to portray, blogs, events, upcoming meetings, academic achievements of members
and showcasing unusual talents of surgeons across the orthopaedic fraternity.
