SEPTEMBER 2023
Based on my understanding in Curriculum, Instruction, And Assessment in Education
course, I can strengthen my knowledge about the importance of curriculum design, stages in
curriculum development and instruction and assessment that support students learning. The
importance of a systematic approach to curriculum design, concentrating on four important
aspects including organisation, learning experiences, objectives, and evaluation (Tyler.R.,
1949). In this context, national curriculum development in Malaysia is in line with Tyler’s
model. Three main elements of national curriculum in Malaysia are content, pedagogical
method and assessment (Ministry of Education, 2001). Content of curriculum must include
knowledge, skills, values and learning outcome expected from the curriculum. Students must
obtain learning experience through quality of pedagogical method to achieve learning
objectives and being assessed of the curriculum being taught. The Ministry of Education
designed the curriculum and teacher implement it at school level.
After taking this course, I believe that in this Industrial Revolution 4.0, national curriculum
design must reflect the latest knowledge, skills, and values for student to be able to adapt
with the challenging world of work. I also agree that Ministry of Education move to engage as
many stakeholders as possible when developing new national curriculum 2027. The national
curriculum for 2027 will include seven new domains, including personal development,
communication, responsibility, digital fluency, diverse literacy, thinking skills and lifelong
learning and it is believed that these domains can produce individuals who can lead
balanced lives. The domains in this new curriculum will be thoroughly discussed, debated,
detailed, and reviewed through the Future Education Tour Program and targeted
engagement sessions soon (Ministry of Education, 2023).
The i-THINK programme was introduced by the Ministry. The Thinking Schools International
served as the model for the i-THINK programme.
(UK: Kestral Education). The i-THINK programme is a useful strategy for fostering higher
order thinking skills in
teaching and learning strategies between educators and learners through the use of created
thinking maps by David Hyerle.
Teachers and students in this programme receive training on how to apply efficient thinking
techniques and resources to enhance their
HOTS. It entails picking up some essential cognitive skills, such
In terms of evaluation, the ministry has improved the assessment criteria for assessing how
students—from preschoolers to Form 5 students—are developing their HOTS. The parts of
HOTS were assessed by the ministry using both school-based and national test evaluations.
