Is death penalty effective?

“It is certainty of being caught and punished that deters time and not the severity of the punishment.”
Death penalty is a capital punishment. It is a punishment of a crime by practice of killing a person. Death
penalty is a legal penalty that can be imposed for treason, murder, and any heavy cases. It is known that
the death penalty in the Philippines ended last 2006, but was reintroduced by President Rodrigo Duterte
since 2016. But is it really effective? Does it really help to stop the crime?

Some of the benefits of death penalty is that it is quick and painless. A person doesn’t need to spend
time suffering a lifetime imprisonment. Another one is it deters criminals from commiting crimes. Even
though they commit serious crimes, people are still afraid to die. Some people believe that a person will
stop commiting crime if he/she is really afraid to lose her/his life.

However, there are also a lot of bad benefit that is caused by death penalty. It is anti poor and only who
has the power and money will be able to benefit from it. In fact, there is no credible proof that death
penalty helps to lessen the crime. Another bad thing about death penalty is it continues the cycle of
violence. The logic just does not make sense. Thinking that you will kill people for killing is like believing
commiting two wrongs can make a right.

In conclusion, death penalty violates the human rights. It can never bring back a life of an innocent
person. A lot of people will lose their lives for a crime they did not commit. In this society, being poor
means being oppressed. You will never achieve the justice you deserve if you do not have money to fight
for your case. Those people will continue to rely on those lawyer who aims to help and bring hope to
their lives. If the government really wants to stop the crime, they should start by doing something for
the betterment of the justice system
