HORIZONTAL CITY AND VERTICAL CITY

Nowadays, there are many debates about what was the preferable
way to design a city. It is often argued that the ideal way is for cities to
expand their living space vertically, while others are appealed to the
idea of horizontal cities. For me, I lean towards living in horizontal
cities, although the other option is also worth pondering and
discussing.

On the one hand, there are many reasons why residents should live in
vertical cities. Firstly, vertical cities have an advantage in terms of land
use. For example, many cities in China are built according to this design
to accommodate tens of millions of people in an area that often
matches a fraction of other countries. Secondly, living in vertical cities
also helps protect the environment. Many forests will be saved from
being converted to entertainment or shopping centers because vertical
buildings can provide the same amenities.

On the other hand, I believe that living in a horizontal city brings a

great of benefits, regardless of some concerns. The first benefit is that
although it requires more land, this type of low-rise house creates
more living space for people. A municipality that is spread over a large
area will have more room for parks and other common spaces,
providing a pleasant environment for everyone. Another benefit is that
thanks to lower population density and more space, horizontal cities
have more potential to become tourist destinations. Therefore, the
horizontal city development model is clearly superior to the vertical
city model when it comes to living.

In conclusion, both horizontal and vertical cities have their advantages,

but I tend to believe that living in a horizontal city is better. Overall, a
horizontal city may be the right choice for most needs.
