So, it's the last lesson of the week. Huh! Did you have a lot of work? You'll have some more today. As we're
getting closer and closer to finishing Unit 4, I'd like you to prepare for your third oral exam.
LESSON: Associations (writing)
1. CHECK WB PRACTICE
2. ASSOCIATIONS
So, today we’re going to talk about associations. Do you know what associations /əˌsəʊ.siˈeɪ.ʃəns/ are? They
are words you connect with other words.
Let’s say, I say a word and you tell me the first thing you think of; e.g.
blue (the sky, the sea…)
green (grass)
yellow (the sun)… There is no right or wrong here, since each person has their own associations.
However, you are going to have to learn some associations with different COUNTRIES. For example, what
object do we think of when we think of Slovenia? The answer might be POTICA, KOZOLEC, AJDOVA KAŠA…
Open your books on p.112 and look at exercise 6. First MATCH the pictures and the countries/nationalities at
the bottom of the page. Write the name of the correct country under the pictures.
PIC 1: Russia: Matryoshkas
PIC 2: Norway: Vikings
PIC 3: Australia: kangaroo etc
Then you take it in turns to write 4 sentences per picture. Yes, you really have to write four!
I think ______________ come(s) from _______________(country).
I think ______________ is/are typical OF __________________ (country).
I think ______________ is/are _________________ (nationality) in origin.
I think ______________ (country) is the land of _______________.
You get to practice 4 different structures. Be careful because some words are singular and some are plural!
