From Organization Procedures to Organization Business Processes
• Someone needed to oversee the
productivity of groups of workers
concerned with the same part of a
production process, that is a managers
• Functional units was created in which people
with a similar focus on part of the production
process were grouped together
• The units and their managers were
structured hierarchically
• groups are under departments, departments are
under business units, etc.
• What we see here is the root of the
functional units that are familiar to us
today when we think about (functional)
organizations:
• purchasing, sales, warehousing, finance,
marketing, human resource management,
etc.
