Guidelines and Sample Script

Thank you again for staging a Chunky Onion drama program at your school! In order to help you get your students more involved with the interactive performance, we suggest that your school provide two Student Masters of Ceremony to help open the show. Below are the Guidelines for the Student MCs and a Sample Script. Student MC Guidelines:

1. Role of the MC Before the start of the drama, the Student MCs will welcome the audience
and introduce the Show Host. The Student MCs should be cheerful and encourage their classmates to relax and anticipate fun!

2. Short introduction The MCs should confidently introduce themselves, welcome their
classmates and then explain a bit about the show. The introduction should be simple and take no longer than one minute. Student MCs should practice their speeches prior to the performance date: the more practice they have, the more confident they will be on stage.

3. Which students should be selected? The only criteria for being a Student MC is that the
student should be willing to do their best. Students who are outgoing and NOT shy but with weaker English should not be excluded, as serving as a Student MC can, and should be, a confidence builder! We suggest that Student MCs be from different forms and be of different genders (if possible).

4. When should the student MCs arrive? They should arrive in the hall one hour before the
show start time. Once there, they will be able to do a sound check and a practice run of their speech on stage with the assistance of one of our cast members.

5. When will the student MCs be dismissed? As soon as theyve completed their
introduction to Chunky Onion on stage, they will lead the audience in welcoming our M.C. to the stage with loud applause, while they walk off the stage and return to their seats. They will then be called back onto the stage by our M.C. to help Chunky Onion warm up the audience and return again to their seats. After the performance, our cast would be delighted to meet and congratulate the Student MCs.
