Improving Conversation Skills: Practice the conversation with a partner

Dialogue 1

A: Get in. It will be a long driving trip. Should we choose some music to listen to?

B: That's a great idea. What kind of music do you like?

A: I enjoy listening to all kinds of music.

B: Come on, what genre do you like mostly listening to?

A: I usually listen to rhythm and blues and rap music. I like the bass and the electric guitar

tones.

B: I don't like rap; the lyrics are hard to listen to. It's similar to listening to a poem, not a

piece of music.

A: So, what kind of music do you like?

B: I like ballads always. The lyrics and beats are really great.

A: I know ballads can help us to relax, but are you sure it's suitable for driving?

B: Don't you think so?

A: Yeah, we can fall asleep when focusing on their rhythm, though they always tell some

great stories.

B: It's hard to choose one. Do you have any recommendations?

A: What about electronic music?

B: Sounds good. We can dance while driving.

A: Which singer do you suggest?

B: Marshmello or Avicii?

A: We can listen to a shuffle playlist; it will be better.

B: Okay, let's go.

A: Have you gone to a concert?

B: Yes, I'm a raver. I take part in EDM concerts always when I have free time.

A: Invite me next time. I also want to go to an EDM concert.

B: Sure, I have an idea.

A: What is it?

B: Do you want to sing karaoke?

A: Karaoke? I don't usually sing; I'm so shy.

B: Come on, there are only two of us.

A: Okay, choose one pop song for me.

B: “Hello.”

A: No, it's a difficult one.

B: So, choose your favorite one.

A: Hmm, "Thunderclouds.”

B: Okay, music's on.

Dialogue 2

A: Vic, look! That guitarist looks so cool.

B: I also want to play the guitar, but I think it is too big for me. Do you know how to play any

musical instruments?

A: Yes, I do. I know one.

B: Which kind of instruments do you play?

A: I play the violin.

B: Oh my god, that's so awesome! The violin sounds are perfect.

A: How about you? Which kind of musical instruments do you play?

B: I play the piano.

A: Great! When did you start learning the piano?

B: I started learning when I was 5 years old.

A: Cool! I also like the piano, but my house doesn't have space for it.

B: Violin is cool as well. When did you start learning the violin?

A: I started when I was 15.

B: Why did you start playing?

A: My sister is a violinist. She taught me when she had free time.

B: I also want to play the violin. Does your sister want to have a student now?

A: Yes, but she is in Spain at the moment, unfortunately.

B: What a pity. So, can you teach me?

A: Sure, if you want.

B: Great! Thanks so much. I want to start as soon as possible. Are you free this weekend?

A: Yes, do you want to start this weekend?

B: Yes, I do. We will go to buy a new violin, then we can learn together.

A: I think you should use mine first. Then, if you really love it, we can buy a new one later.

B: Great! Thanks.

A: I will come to your house. I also want to try the piano at your house.

B: Sure. That piano was bought when my parents got married. It's old, but it still works

perfectly.

A: Cool!
