Title: SI-47-01: TECTA 2.2.10 software - Network and Email Setup
Doc Number SI-47-01
Procedure
The 2.2.10 Build 2210_world20191105 release of the TECTA software has an important additional
network and email features since the release of 2.2.8. This document describes these features and their
use. Please see the Release Notes of the 2.2.10 for additional notes on software changes or upgrade
instructions.
The TECTA is a benchtop instrument for automated analysis of drinking water samples. The instrument
has a single RJ45 (Ethernet) port to allow Networking. Once networked, the instrument can email water
analysis results or alerts to a pre-programmed list of email recipients
Although reasonable precautions have been taken to make unauthorized access of the TECTA sample
results difficult, it is recommended to deploy the TECTA behind a firewall to further protect client sample
results. Therefore, recommended approach to improve security is to connect TECTA through a wired
router.
Please note that the TECTA instrument does not ship with a CAT5 Ethernet cable or router, so the site
must provide this network infrastructure if email alerts are enabled. If the router already exists at a private
network site, IT managers may need to dictate or know which port number of the router used to connect
the TECTA instrument.
Before proceeding with the Network and Email set up of the TECTA on site, confirm ahead of time with
the site manager whether the network connection is public or private and, if private network, obtain all
permissions and network settings from the IT manager of site in advance or at the time of installation. The
required settings are:
If the network is open or public, it is possible to obtain the necessary network settings using the command
prompt of a PC connected to the same Ethernet cable connected into the TECTA instrument. This
approach requires a PC or laptop computer to be available at the time of installation.
The 2.2.10 Build 2210_world20191105 release of the TECTA software has email settings improvements.
The email settings screen has been reorganized, as shown below, and now has a "View Password"
capability when adding or changing the password (it does not allow viewing of the password once it has
been set). To set the password, hit the "Change" button, which will clear the old password (it can be
restored by hitting the "Discard" button on the far right). The "Change" button then becomes the "Show
Password" button, which can be used to show/hide the password if desired.
For email to be sent from the TECTA, an email account must also be setup to send emails only. TECTA-
PDS can provide generic or custom Gmail accounts and settings for this use; however, most private
networks prefer the assignment of an email account for improved security. In this instance, the required
information from the IT manager is:
1) Email address
2) Password
3) Server (example: smtp.gmail.com or 192.168.10.1)
4) Port Number (example: 587 or 25)

Title: SI-47-01: TECTA 2.2.10 software - Network and Email Setup
Doc Number SI-47-01
Procedure
Numerous email addresses can be setup to receive alerts or reports from the TECTA using a comma and
no space between the recipient email addresses. Recipient addresses can be added anytime by the user,
or it is recommended that this list be provided at the time of installation. Some organizations with multiple
TECTA instruments also create and add a central email account to receive reports from all TECTA
instruments to have a centralized backup of all results remotely accessed.
Start of Procedure
The TECTA must be connected to a network for the email capability to be accessible.
Step 1) With an Ethernet cable, connect a computer to a router network and obtain IP
configuration data.
a) From the Windows start menu -> search for "command prompt"
Figure 1
NOTE: there are two types of network connections, public (DHCP) and private (IP address).
Step 1, as seen above, would be useful in a situation where the client has a public (DHCP)
network connection.
If the client has a secure/or private (IP address) network connection, skip step 1, and proceed
as follow:
1. Request the following IP configuration date from the client or IT personal:
a) Gateway
b) Static IP
c) Network
d) Broadcast

Procedure
Upon completion of obtaining the IP configuration data, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the
computer and connect it directly to the TECTA.

NOTE: The TECTA is configured for deployment behind a firewall. It should not be exposed
directly to the Internet as it is not hardened against hackers, although reasonable precautions
have been taken to make unauthorized access difficult.
The "Default Gateway" should be set to the IP address of the firewall or other machine used to
connect to the Internet.
The "Network", "Subnet Mask", and "Broadcast" address of the machine should be configured
appropriately for the network. If the Gateway IP is 192.168.10.1, then the "Network" setting
would typically be 192.168.10.1, the "Subnet Mask" would be 255.255.255.0, and the
"Broadcast" address would be192.168.10.255. In general, the IP/DHCP drop-down should be
set to DHCP.
WARNING!
Make sure to reset the unit after completing the network before proceeding with the email setup.
Not doing so will not let you set the "From" and "To" fields.

Procedure
Email Setup
For the purposes of testing the TECTA's email capabilities, it is necessary to have an SMTP server
available. The setup of a Gmail account (tecta.testing@gmail.com) has been done for this purpose.

setup and then the client noticed the following error messages as shown below:
1- "Error: AUTH LOGIN failed: '535.5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted. Learn more at'"
Solution: This error is due to Dual Factor Authentication (2FA) login error, and Gmail require the
account holder to verify their identity, which was identified login on another device or app (TECTA).
To resolve this issue, login into your Gmail account on a laptop or desktop, locate the "critical alert"
email in your inbox, click "Check Activity", and press "Yes, it was me" to confirm, as shown below.
Solution: This secondary error may occur, but it mostly will, after resolving the first error message
above, caused by Google attempting to block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices like TECTA
that, according to Google, do not use modern security standard. Google added this additional layer of

Step 20) Go back to the "Home" screen and restart the unit. The network cable MUST be connected at
startup to ensure reliable initialization.
Step 21) Login as per Step 3 and go back to Email Tab, as shown in Step 15. Press the "Test" button to
send a test email after configuration.
(The UI may appear to freeze for a few seconds after hitting "YES" on the test email dialog. If an error
occurs during the sending process, it will appear in the response dialog).
Note: The most common error is that the SMTP server is unknown. This is a result of a bad network
configuration or physical disconnection from the network; in other words, the name of the mail server
cannot be resolved because the name server cannot be reached.
Step 22) Test the software's notification workflow by running a test in Chamber 1. You should receive two
emails as EC and TC go positive separately.
(This test can be done in Emulator Mode for quick demonstration purposes. Log on as Service User and
ensure Restart Emulator).
