INTRODUCTION

Cockroaches are common pests in the tropics. They have been known to cause

allergic reactions to most people and chew holes on clothes. The real danger of

cockroaches in their ability to transmit sometimes lethal diseases and organisms

such as Staphylococcus, Hepatitis viruses, and Coliform bacteria. They have

been known to contaminate food, at the same time infect it with the bacteria they

carry. The bacteria they spread in food can cause food poisoning. Natural

contamination of cockroaches with wide range of pathogenic organisms including

about 40 species of bacteria, nearly 12 species of pathogenic helminthes, the

second largest group of vertebrate pathogens, and also viruses, protozoa and

fungi affecting man and other vertebrate animals have been reported by

numerous studies. Often their movement between waste and food materials led

to acquire, carry, and mechanically transfer the said pathogens. As proven,

cockroaches play a prominent role in carrying and distributing organisms causing

diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, leprosy, plague, typhoid fever, and viral diseases

such as poliomyelitis. They also carry the parasitic worms such as Taenia,

Shistosoma, and Ascaris that may cause allergic reactions, including dermatitis,

itching, swelling of the eyelids, and more serious respiratory conditions (Stankus,

1990; Savoldelli & Luciano, 2005)

is believed to contain potent antioxidants and to have antibacterial properties.

Oregano oil contains an essential compound called carvacrol, which has

antibacterial properties. (Nordquist, 2017)

Garlic (Allium sativum) is a common cooking ingredient that possesses some

health benefits. Throughout history people have used garlic to prevent and treat

a variety of conditions and diseases. Allium is the genus that includes onions,

rakkyo (an Asian onion), scallions, chive, leeks, and shallots. Garlic is closely

related to all of these plants. Since thousands of years ago, people have utilized

it for both culinary, health and therapeutic. Garlic (Allium Sativum) is a herb

growing from a strongly aromatic, rounded bulb composed of around 10 to 20

cloves covered in a papery coat. Its ability to fight bacteria, viruses, fungi, and

even parasites is the perfect example for an organic pesticide/insecticide. (Wolfe,

2023)

We used Oregano (Origanum vulgare) and Garlic (Allium Sativum) as an organic

multi insect killer spray because it is safer than the commercial products that

contain plant-derived chemicals called pyrethrins. These chemicals were

originally isolated from chrysanthemum flowers and are generally not harmful.

However, they can cause life-threatening breathing problems if they are breathed

in. but oregano and garlic are safe to use and not quite harmful as the

ingredients commercial products use (National Pest Management Association,

2023)

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Summary

Conclusion

Oregano and Garlic mosquito repellent spray is a good and effective for repelling

mosquitoes because of its natural and strong scent that prevent without harm in

people neither in the environment. This product proves that an effective insect-

spray repellent comes in reasonable cost. And this spray can be made by any

household or community members because all of the ingredients are locally

available and easy to find. The beneficial effects of the oregano leaves extract in

getting rid of insects are proven to be effective by many researchers, teachers or

other professors. And this effective natural extract became more powerful when

combined with other powerful ingredient like the garlic that makes the spray more

effective and powerful.
