Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist (Christ Is Present in Our Midst)

The Holy Eucharist, is another sacrament of initiation and can be received daily if desired. The word "Eucharist"
refers to the Sacrament of the Eucharist, which is the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ truly present on the altar under the
appearances of bread and wine.

Catholics believe the Eucharist, or Communion, is both a sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the real presence of
Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer
to God. In answering “Amen” to the words, “The Body of Christ,” we are actually professing in public our acceptance of
Jesus into our lives. When we receive Jesus’ body and blood in the appearances of bread and wine at Mass, we are
actually receiving Jesus into our lives
We can recognize Jesus’ presence if we faithfully celebrate the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. At mass, Christ is
present in the midst of the faithful who gather in His name. He is also present through the reading of the Scripture. The
Lord is present in the person of the ordained priest. Lastly, He comes to us in His own body and blood under the
appearances of bread and wine.

The Eucharist is our thanksgiving worship to the Father through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit. We give thanks because of
the Father’s love for us which was revealed to us in the self-giving love of Christ.

The Sacrament of the Eucharist or Holy Mass is composed of two major parts – the Liturgy of the Word and the
Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Let us look at the parts of Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist and their meaning.
