Experiment No 3

Subject: Test and measure voltages drop across

resistors connected in series.

Name: Mohamed Ibrahim Salih.

Number: 3217109
Objectives of experiment:
To show how connecting resistors in series affect the total
voltage and voltage drop in each resistor.

Theory:
In series circuit the total resistance is larger than the
largest one in the circuit.
Series resistors pass through it the same current the total
resistance in the circuit is equal to the total sum of the
resistors in the circuit.
Rtotal =R + R

Matrials Required:
 power manifold
 service module 91
 circuit laws and bridges
 multimeter

Action step:
1. Connect the units in frame.
2. Set the 100 ohm variable resistor to zero.
3. Use the variable resistor to set current through the
two resistors to 0.1A.
4. Record the voltage readings from multimeter in both
resistors.
5. Repeat the steps for each resistor 5 ohm and 10 ohm.

Notification:
Due to low power supply voltage in the lap we couldn’t
exceed 0.465A current in the circuit.

Conclusion:
Whenever we connect resistors in series we get a total
resistance greater then largest resistor in the circuit.
Hence:
Rtotal =R1+R2 +,,,,,,,,, Rn
